How do you access the flywheel bolts when replacing your tranny on a 99 3.0, do you have to pull the oil pan on the engine? Or are they accessible elsewhere?

I'm sure its probably different than the 3.0 but did you try removing the starter? The bolts on my 3.0 can be gotten at from behind the starter

well, there are bolts for the torque converter to the flywheel. You get at them through the little removable plate on the flex plate. two 8mm or 5/16 screws hold the access panel on IIRC. You will need to rotate the flywheel to get to each bolt. there are 4. Then the torque converter can be separated from the flywheel with the transmission. at that point you have clear access to the flywheel bolts.
