The driver's seat is breaking down on my 97 supercab with split bench seats. It might be just the foam under the fabric has degraded. The fabric is no longer stretched tight like the passenger side. But, when I sit on it it feels a little lumpy and slightly lower on the left side. My friend has a 94 supercab with bucket seat and his seat is definately more comfortable than mine.

I would rather not just plop a pillow or gel pad on it. I would like to restore it to its original state or better. Before I go off to the junkyard for a replacement, does anyone have suggestions for fixing this one?

Thanx

If you take it to an upulstery place than replace the fabric and foam. It would probably be cheaper to find a different seat, but it would cost much to get an estimate or two as it might be cheaper than you think.

Sounds like the foam has degraded. Take the seat apart and see if it's the problem. If it is it probably wouldn't be too expensive to find a good foam / bad fabric seat bottom at the junkyard, and just replace the bottom reusing your cover. Later models' upholstery is really easy to take apart.

How many layers of foam is in there? How deep does the foam go before you hit the springs? Is the fabric of the seat cover clipped or riveted on to the seat? Can I take the cover off with the seat in place or do I have to remove it?

Thanks B

One big block of foam, about 8 inches, clipped on, and yes you can.....I undid mine to do a 40/40 bucket seat conversion, and I'm in need of the same thing you are, mines a 97 too coincedently.

I'm not sure yet, the trucks been in project hell for the last 6 months and I haven't been driving it. From what I remember, it's not so much degraded like falling apart and you can replace the top half, as much as it's gotton soft and the whole block just squish's down. If you have or want to have bucket seats, you may try a low buck fix like taking the passenger side seat foam from a junkyard truck. Using the passenger side, usually guarentess less wear.

I put 2006 ranger fx4 bucket seats into my 93... they bolted directly up, i just swapped the seat belts over...

i cut chunks of the old foam out and then used some good grade uhpolstrey spray glue and glued some new firm uhpolstrey grade in its place. Worked well to firm up to seat on the door side so it didnt have a slumped side anymore.
