Well, I was replacing my o2 sensors. They were giving me hell but I finally got them out. Little did i realize, the drivers side y-pipe o2 sensor hole stripped out and so did the after cat o2 sensor hole. How screwed am I? this is my DD. What are my options?

did you try a tap? were they hot when pulled?

worse comes to worse the bungs are cheap...welding them in sucks though.

If they look anything like some of the O2 sensors I have pulled, the sensor is fubar, and the hole is not much better off.

Like bobby said, you can try a tap, I have no idea what size it will be.

I recommend trying the tap, but dont loose all motivation if it fails.

The next step will be to pull and replace or repair the Ypipe becuse tryingto weld in a new bung while its in there, atleast while the tranny is also still in will not be some thing you want to try.

wow stripped o2 sensor hole tap ..die hole when they are hot... twiste old flat screwdriver on hole hot or oxygen sensor thread chaser

It's a good idea to remove/install when cold. If the tap does not work, your fastest and easiest way to replace it is go down to your local muffler shop...for what it will cost you for them to do it (maybe $20) it'll be worth your time to go there

If the threads are that far gone, you won't be able to save them. That tool is designed to straighten threads that have been knurled/slightly damaged...

itll grab whats left and clean/tap the threads for ya.

you didnt mess the threads up, you stripped the metal of the o2 sensor and its gunked up the bung thread.

trust me, been there, done that

Yea! thats exactly what I did, the bottom threads on the old o2 sensor are totally boned and the excess metal is in the bung. I'm gonna head over to town and get that thread chaser and try it out. good news is my mom doesn't need her car for a while so i can have the truck down. thanks for the help :icon_thumby:, I hope I can make it work. Rockin the 06 Toyota Rav-4 for a bit, woooo :icon_rofl:

try rocking a 200,000 mile 97 rav4 for a while

i couldnt kill that thing, overheated, offroaded, got my first and only ticket in it, and i only had my permit.

Well it didnt work, we reamed on both of them. Bought the thread chaser and tried it and on one of them. It would start to thread and just come right off after. went at both of them for about an hour... Any other ideas? The top most threads on the bung were just not there, Literally just smooth jammed full of the metal from the o2 sensor. I guess I should start pricing out exhaust parts. i really don't want to waste the money on a new cat section.

try heating it up a lil bit and just tappin at the gunked up metal with a screwdriver or a punch just so you get the thread chaser started
