I have a one piece roof spoiler, visor, light mount I can't find any info on it I want to know who makes it, is it rare, has anyone else seen one before?

Ok a little back story My mom bought an '87 ranger STX from a guy for $1400 he has owned the truck since it was new back in 1987 I've seen the truck all my life I would see it parked infront of this guys house walking to school 15 years ago or so. As far as I can remember the truck has always had this on it. Anyways she bought the truck drove it down the interstate for a few weeks going back and forth to work she told me the truck seemed like it was struggling to get up to speed and the visor was vibrating really bad so she asked me if I could remove it. It took me almost an hour after removing the screws and lots of prying to pull this thing off. It was being held in place with two screws in each a-pillar, and 4 across the back which came all the way down to the rear window and two 4 inch circles of urithan to keep it in place, at first glance it looked like the visor and spoiler was molded to the the truck the was no seem along the side but one I removed the four screws holding the front down I could lift it to see that it fit perfectly along the roof rails and there was a body colored roof under it. The wires for the two KC lights ran under it and into the hole were the rear brake light was suppose to be and down to a switch under the steering wheel the the KC emblem on it. I'm just curious if any one else has seen these before and has any info on it.

never seen anything like that before.

Nope I plan on keeping it one for the fact I've never seen another and two I want to use it later on down the road. Just like I have the rare long tube hedman header that I found at the J/Y for the 2.3. It's hanging on my wall until I get another 2.3.

dude your full of rare parts lol but i dont blame you id keep it to

Yep I keep everthing i can get my hands on I even have the factory battery hold down from ford I 've only ever seen on other ranger with one, plus a factory T-case skid plate never seen one of those either I'll post up some pics in just a min.

and see above post about skidplate

and that battery hold down is pretty cool

I got my header for 25 bucks so I can't complain I'm taking over to my buddies house he has a big sand blast box he uses for restoring tractor parts and I'm going to have it ceramic coated. I got lucky with it I was there the weekend before getting a tranny for a friends caddy and we was on our way out as we past all the RBVs I said hang on i want to see what they've got. I saw the header but I didn't have any extra money with me I went back the next weekend and I couldn't belive it was still there! While I was removing it some guy came by and poked his head in and didn't look happy to see me working on it and he kept hovering like he was hoping I wouldn't get it off I took me 15 mins and I got all the header bolts out intacked. and the female flange.:icon_bounceblue:

I don't know why those would be "rare". They were factor parts on everything with a battery and 4x4.

battery holder

one of those is holding my battery in place right now.

T-case skid plate

and one of those is kicking around in my bed because I'm too lazy to find hardware and put it back on.

Now this Ranger Toupe that you have come across here, that's a new one on me.

Yes, but over the years they get swaped out and lost and in most cases ford don't make them anymore.

If that skid plate is rare, then I'm a rich man. I got 5-6 of them sitting around.

I've seen that "toupee" (good call adsm08) before, but its very rare.

Not in PA. At least not in the case of the battery hold down. Car fails safety inspection without one.

Well thats why I've made this thread I want all the info I can get. I posted the skid plate up on R-F and several members wanted to buy it saying theres didn't have'em. This is was my second 4x4 ranger and I've been under a few and it's the first I've seen too. As for the battery tie down I know all rangers must have came from the factory with'em but Jeff foxworthy has a joke If your wife has a set of jumper cables in her car and she knows how to use them she must be from Ohio. Dead batteries and ohio go together like white on rice so I'm sure becuse of the constant battery that changing people leave out the hold down in favor of a bungee to make the change faster. I've only seen one other ranger with one. Same with the skid plate people have changed out the case or the tranny being most people don't do any real wheeling they are pointless and too lazy to put them back on. oh and we don't do inspections here the only time a automobile would ever need inspecting is if you fix a car that has a salvaged title to get the car registered.

I just simply like to collect factory items that I may someday be able to sell at flea markets or i might just keep as my personal collection as such kinda like the way some guys like to collect JDM parts for thier hondas they may never use them or sell them and it can turn into a addiction. I'm on a roll I have several parts collected and I continue to find more stuff that I don't have. As rangers grow into the historical vehicle catagory them and there parts may someday become collectable.
