How rare are manual shift transfer cases in Rangers?

I've been poking around looking at other Rangers and I ran across this one:

http://www.fosterauto.com/view_vehicle.html?vehicle_id=MjAwNg==

Its an X-cab manual with a manual t-case. Ive been looking on CL and havent really seen any. There appears to be an abundance of push button ones.

Too bad its salvage title, the damage probably isnt that bad and its got pretty low mileage for a 96'. Wouldnt be a bad truck to have.

I'm actually looking for a newer truck and was looking at Toyotas and Nissans based on past experience. How do Rangers compare in reliability? They are sure a lot cheaper!

there's a reason that there are so many rangers out there, they're reliable little trucks... 3.0's are slow but can go 200k+ w/o problems. the 5 speed manual is reliable as well... 4wd issues are only auto hubs and the eletric t-case. since yours is a manual tcase you'll be good. i can't tell if it has auto or manual locking hubs..if it has auto's you might have some problems...

since it has a salvage title with such little body damage ( the tailgate is easily replaced..and it has like 1 dent in the bed.) i'd check and make sure the frame isn't bent as i don't see why the insurance company would put a salvage title of that truck...

other than that, and the ugly blue interior ..it looks good.

I wouldn't pay close to 4k for it though, especially for a salvage title..

:bad:
Give me a minute to get over the blue interior....

Ok. There's no way its worth $4K with a salvage title and you still have to fix the damage on top of that!!!!

Oddly enough, you can get comprehensive and collision (Full Coverage) on a salvage vehicle as long as it's been repaired. Have fun working the valuation details with a claims adjuster, but it is a neat tidbit.

But I agree, do NOT pay $4k on a salvage title. You can easily put $4k down and find a nice ranger elsewhere.

or pay 3k for the same ranger with slightly higher miles from someone on craigslist. with no damage.

Yea, the interior is gross. Its located at a huge auto recycler so they of course want big bucks for it. But, its been there for a while. Maybe I will give them a ring for details.

It just stuck out cause its one of the few Ive seen with a manual shift tcase. All the others have the push button or dial crap.

Ive had salvage title cars before. Liability coverage is fine. I am looking for something to pay cash for. Car payements = no bueno...

I hate the red interiors worse then the blue ones....but...blah as well....lol

The blue interior would be an easier pill to swallow if it wasn't painted barney purple.

I'd give 2 grand tops for that thing.

Unless of course you are BennyBooster who can't seem to go 6 months without hydrolocking is engine.

For the record, I feel interiors should not stray from gray, tan, or black.

:D

I feel that tan is also an abominable color for the interior of a vehicle. I like my blue and red interiors, but dark colors are best. My main point for this argument is that people want their interiors worked on, but don't want to see dirty smudges on things. Thus we should only make the pieces in colors that the mechanic can actually touch without leaving a visible smudge or fingerprint.

For the record, I will scrub my hands with the best stuff we have until they are as clean as they get, and I can still go touch a white or tan interior piece and leave a finger print.

The interior in my Explorer was tan, and I really liked it. I admit, it's harder to keep clean than even gray. But I like it.

Here's my Explorer (RIP):

My Ranger was green. It was "ok".... probably just a smidge better than blue by my standards. But WAY better than red.

I with you on that one. I put up with a blue interior (in a blue truck) for a while, but red..... never.

I went to look at a 1st gen Ex. Drove about 30 minutes, pulled up next to it, saw the red interior, pulled back out of the parking spot, and went home. :D

I'm glad you all hate red interiors. More parts for me.
