First: I am in Victoria Canada but have the ways and means to export this vehicle if required.
The 2003 Ford Ranger Thunderbolt is a special edition of Ford's mini-truck. This edition was produced in collaboration with SLP (Street Legal Performance), a company known for enhancing the performance and aesthetics of vehicles. This truck is very rare and qualifies for Hagerty collector vehicle insurance due to its limited production status.
Engine and Performance:
The Thunderbolt is equipped with a powerful 4.0-liter V6 producing 222 hp .
Performance enhancements include cold air intake and a performance cat back exhaust system, providing a boost in horsepower and a more aggressive sound.
Exterior:
The Thunderbolt base package for 2003 included several visual upgrades including non-functional hood scoop, monochromatic side-body cladding and rear roll pan, three exterior badges, single outlet exhaust tip, Thunderbolt logo wheel center caps, and a monochromatic grille front bumper and fascia extension.
Interior:
The interior remained largely similar to the standard Ranger, with options for upgraded materials and trim plus special badging.
Suspension and Handling:
The Thunderbolt included a sport-tuned suspension for improved handling and a lower stance compared to the regular Ranger. This example has factory 16-inch Tremor Wheels.
Availability:
The Thunderbolt was produced in limited numbers making it a rare find today. Very few were manufactured and even less found their way to Canada. This well-preserved example is collectable and very unique. These vehicles were sold as original equipment straight from Ford dealers and all Thunderbolts were completely covered by Ford’s manufacturer’s warranty. The option codes were 31L and D9P. On its way to a dealer from the assembly plant, the truck made a quick three to five day stop at SLP Engineering in Kentucky. Here, SLP transformed the truck with their mix of upgrades. When it arrived it’s as if all the options had been installed by Ford itself. About 5000 units were produced. An original sales brochure is included with the purchase.
Vehicle Specifics:
This truck is in very good condition with 164,500 kilometers. The current owner is the third owner of this vehicle that has been on Vancouver Island for its whole life. The body is very straight with minimal wear to the paint consistent with age. The paint is glossy and very presentable. The truck runs very well with high compression and no major mechanical issues. The suspension components have been replaced and the tires are good. Receipts are available for inspection. New plugs and wires were recently installed. The interior is clean and presents well.
Pricing:
A typical Ranger in this condition sells for $10,000 in Canada and $14,000 USD in the United States. The owner is asking $15,000 CDN for this limited production vehicle.
Further information:
I have all receipts for repairs and upgrading. I also have more pictures and will provide an honest assessment of the vehicle to interested parties. I have spent a lot of time preserving this vehicle and would like to see it go to a like-minded person.
Reason for sale:
I bought a 56 Chev pickup and my wife ordered me to sell.
