How much work to swap a 4L into an 89 ranger?

I found a solid 89 ranger with the 2.9L v6 for $600. Other than the 2.9, it looks great. How hard is it to swap in a 4L into one that came stock with the 2.9? Are there any kits out there? Or are there any other popular engine swaps? Something that would allow me to keep the 4x4

What 4.0l if it is the ohv motor it is a pretty straight forward swap, just find one out of a explorer of ranger. Now I just got done doing the shoc swap and if I was to do it again I would prob. just do the 5.0 swap out of a explorer or mountaineer.

It's a bolt in affair. Best bet is a 91-94 Explorer or 90-92 Ranger. Motor mounts, exhaust, tranny, all bolt up. (Although I woudln't suggest using the tranny, unless its a M5OD, which is unlikely)

Wiring is a different story. You need the entire harness from the under the hood, and the computer.

You will need the Radiator and Fuel lines as well.

Mechanically the 4.0 is a true "bolt in", it even bolts up to the same Y-pipe

as for wiring it's easiest to use the wiring harness from a 1990-92 Ranger

There are differences in the explorer harness.
