How much will an amp help?

Hmm. Interesting thread.

I just sold my Toyota PU for an '05 B4000. I pulled my mostly Sony system out in the hopes of transplanting it in the Mazda. My HU will be new, but will prob be a Sony as I have the ext 6disk changer.

Door speakers will be 2 sets of Infinity 6822's already purchased.

Amp is my tried-but-true Xplod XM1805GX 5 channel. Guess this puts me in the Xplod Club. As I've been running this for almost 7 years trouble-free, I can attest to the quality. I'm really interested to see (hear) how the Infinity's sound with only 2ohms.

Sub is a JL 10" in a sealed enclosure. Though this is kind of up in the air too. I might try to run 2 10's.

One thing I'm going to do different is I'm thinking of running FatMat everywhere.

Keep up the good work, guys! Even if it is with Sony stuff lol!

Alot of people forget about voltage!! Make sure that you HU is putting out the required voltage for the amp. Factory HUs put out about 10-12 volts when you want them to put out around 14-16 volts for better clearity. I have my factory HU with 2 MTX tens in a sledghammer box and a 10 farad cap. and had to add a booster to get rid of the empty garbage that even a professional amp can put out if you don't have enough voltage!!

If you want better than good quality, go MTX woofers and a sledgehammer box with an MTX amp and keep the Infinitys in the doors for highs and mids, I have won many of competitions with this set up in my Expedition!

are you talking about the decks rca output voltage? ive never seen one with anything higher than 8 volts. and most amps dont have a input sensitivity that high.

x2, highest ive ever seen is 9v line drivers, and all my amps go to 8 or 9v at the minimum side of the gain knob. i dont think that guy has a clue what hes talking about  it sounds like hes talking about battery voltage but i have no idea how a factory head unit would limit your alternator to 10-12v lol

he's obviously an expert, and you shouldn't doubt the integrity of his information!!!

good to know, i never knew a factory/aftermarket head unit determined your alt's charging voltage, learn something new everyday Lol.
