How much was the B-II when new?

Ive noticed the “big broncos” are selling for a lot used, most are rust buckets too. In ‘89 dad bought one new with a 302, creeper 1st 4-speed manual and it was about 23K. In ‘96 he bought another and as you may know, it was the last year before the excursion replaced it and it only came as a 351/E4OD. cost of it was 29K. both were used to pull a travel trailer, first a 24’ then a 29’. I found a jeep online the other day for 2500, seemed like a scam since everything else is way through the roof. Not a jeep fan anyways, I wouldnt mind a B2 but they are scarce around here and the ones you do see are about on their last mile.

Compared to a Jeep CJ, a Bronco II drove and handled good, got good mileage, and was quiet and comfortable. We sold an absolute pile of them for years. The manual transmissions were Mitsubishis or Toyo Kogos and didn't suck any worse than what Toyota and Datsun/Nissan was selling at the time. The C5 was pretty durable but the A4LD drove better. We were impressed with them until the Explorer appeared.

They were popular around here for sure. I see them around in fields and a few are driven, like mine.

Of course I'm not too far from where they were made originally.

I see Bronco II's every single day online for north of 15K. I've seen as high as $28,000

It doesn't mean they ever fetch that price.

I like ferrets.

It’s all about supply and demand. As the supply goes down the demand will, at the very least, stay the same and probably increase which will also increase the price. At some point all vehicles stop depreciating and start to appreciate.

I saw a VW bus in Hemmings with an asking price of $80,000. If a bus is worth $80k, a Bronco II is worth $20k as a basket case. Ever drive a bus in hilly country? It'll really sharpen your downshifting skills and the noise will deafen you.

I cringe every time I think about what we did with VW cars and buses over the years... we sure did cut up a bunch of them.
