how much is it worth

Thats not too bad of a price i would say. Around here i saw one someone was asking 2000 for and all it needed was a tranny(if only i could talk the wife into letting me get it, i've got a 4.0 5spd in my donor rig)Its lifted but it also has around 260k miles,,,

alright my dad said he would help me out with the cash maybe i just gotta convince my mom i need a truck

I'd be careful of the "it just needs a water pump" statement. It might just need a waterpump and then run great for years. Or it is having major cooling system problems and the guy is simply guessing that it's a water pump. If it's been driven around alot with a degraded cooling system, the 4.0 probably has cracked heads. That is a moderately expensive repair, even if you do it yourself.

The fact that he had to replace the M5OD tranny probably means he let it run out of fluid, which means he probably wasn't too big on regular maintenance. This would scare me.

Not trying to talk you out of it, but just things to consider/inspect before you fork over the cash. You want to be absolutely sure of what you're getting into before spending your hard-earned money on it. :icon_thumby:

alright i can pick this ranger up for 950 cash im gotta rent a car tailer to get it home but if all goes well ill be getting it in 2 weeks

alrgiht thank you how would i check for cracked heads

1. Oil that looks like milkshake on the dipstick (but regular old condensation can cause a little milkshake, but only on the dipstick, and is no cause for concern).
2. Oil that looks like milkshake on the oil fill cap.
3. Filthly looking coolant (but things besides cracked heads can cause this too).
4. Soot in the radiator.
5. Eats coolant.
6. Coolant and/or a watery substance coming out the exhaust pipe (a little bit of water is normal)
7. Engine runs rough.
8. Spark plug(s) from the affected cylinder(s) are covered in white flaky crap.

That's all I can think of right now.
