How many quarts of tranny fluid?

I'm fairly certain I have a M50D-R1 as my truck has the "m" code, but where can I find how much fluid it takes?

I'm replacing a bad VSS and didn't realize it went all the way into the tranny...fluid went everywhere

So off to the autoparts store for me for a pan and fluid...but how much sirs?

should be 2.8 quarts of mercon atf. and have fun i had to use a flavor injector syrige to get it in. PITA

if you pulled the VSS from a manual trans and much fluid came out the trans was
either overfilled, or you shouldn't stand the traans against your garage on it's rear bumper to work on the trans.

Okay all done, and yes there was way too much fluid in the tranny. It was well beyond 2 1/2 quarts roughly thats required. Looks like the moron who had it just added some instead of changing it. The crap was milk disconsolately.

I went ahead and put full synthetic ATF in it a step above what it required in the hopes that it will last. Had to use a 3ft hose to get it in there from the engine compartment. The VSS got replaced, what a pain in the butt. And it stopped the check engine light from coming on but didnt bring the speedo back to life. I think its probably a fuse as half of the dash doesnt light up. Waiting on my Hayes manual to find out what does what. If not, its the VSS cable - it was covered in trans gook. The rubber seal failed awhile back which made the old VSS a breeze to pull out. Wasnt expecting the new one to be so hard to press in.
