how many mpg's does your 2.9 get?

87 2.9 TK5 5-speed manual 2WD
standard cab, long box
don't know rear axle ratio, but highway acceleration is good, so I assume at least 3:55's
just a tiny size bigger tires than stock
previous owner swapped in a later BII ECU for reasons I don't know
otherwise truck is just about box-stock.
I usually get a solid 16mpg combined, seen as high as 18 combined. Usually around 300 miles per tank. I think I might be running a tad rich though, but I haven't really looked into it.

i believe i have a 13 gallon tank...

and have no clue why i consistently get around 13mpg....
i get max of 180 miles per tank (my gas gauge is a bit off, so i try not to let it get too far close to E... when i'm all the way full, i'm about 1/8 of a tank past F, so I usually stop and get gas when I'm near 1/8 of a tank according to the needle)

89k original miles
stock gears
oil is recent
coolant was flushed within the past year (not sure my therm works, my needle barely ever goes past the C, idk if that's the needle or the actual thermostat)
stock air intake, everything.
wires weren't changed, but plugs are recent as well.

i mean i'm a teen, but i'm not THAT heavy on the gas.

i try not to get it past 2000 rpm neighborhood, and 2500 business, 3000 in 40+ speed limit

is there any tricks RPM wise?

My '89 BII has been getting 27 mpg regularly for the three years I've had it on the road. It's 2WD, 5 speed Mitsu, totally stock. Open 3.45 rear, 15" wheels. Travels two lane roads back and forth to work mostly, 75 miles a day, not highway but not city either. Distance has been checked by other vehicles. Fuel gauge isn't reliable but I go 500 miles between fill ups.

My '89 Ranger gets 24 to 25 on the same trips. 2.9, 5 speed Mazda, Open 3.45, Extended Cab, 14" wheels. Bad fuel gauge here but with a much smaller tank then the BII I go 300 miles between fill ups.
