how many mpg's does your 2.9 get?

I have an '89 Ranger 4X4 super cab, 2.9l, auto/OD, 10W-40 and get about 15mpg!

2.9 (duh) w/79,000 miles on it (not a rebuild, original)
5speed w/ 8.8 - 3.73's. - 2WD
No power options, Has A/C but it isn't on the belt.
K&N Filter (in stock air-box, the square filter)
Mobile 1 5w30 Synthetic
Motorcraft Platinum Plugs
Custom Exhaust (stock cats, thrush muffler, side dump)

I average anywhere from 24-26. :icon_cheers:

Highway: loaded (500 pound go cart) goin 110 KM (65mph) i got 19-21 mpgs. same load at 130 km or about 80 mph i got 16-17. this was 2.9 v6 2wd 5 speed in OD or 5th.
Highway unloaded i get 22-24
City:15-16
i use 10-30, but sometimes 5-30

'86 Bronco II 4x4 5spd with 3.45 gears and 245/65/15 wheels got 25 mpgs with a tailwind from Dayton, OH to Knoxville, TN! And I did correct for the incorrect tire size, I used the mileage off my dad's escort.

I been trying to find what is the best RPM for a 2.9 for mileage.

I will Beat you all

89 supercab.
2.9
35" M/Ts
4.56 gears'

7 MPG-HIGHWAY!
Did you adjust your speedo for the much larger tire size? If you didn't you are probably getting better gas mileage than that.

yeah it was adjusted right. i would only get about 100-120 miles to the tank. mostly highway driving.

damn, i though around 300miles a tank was bad for my ranger.

my ranger might be back on the road next spring when its nice out. by then it will have the fluids and stuff changed.

1988 Regular cab long bed, push button 4x4, and 5spd manual. Everything stock 3.73 gears. Engine rebuilt few years ago (don't remember milage) now at somewhere around 258,000. I get anywhere from 13 to 21 MPG depending on how I drive and where I am going. My gas guage doesn't work (of course) so I go on mileage, or till it sputters and stops :D.

German cologne, Mitsu FM 132 5 Speed, stock gearing.
380,000KM / 236,000 MI
245 / 45 R 17 Nexen N3000 rubber
Port matched upper and lower intake
180 degree thermo
E fan
NGK V-power plugs and 8mm Silicone wires, OEM coil
12 BTDC timing
5W 30 Castrol Syntec

On a recent trip to Calgary from Vancouver (relatively hilly terrain and averaged 95 kph (60mph)) I achieved roughly 10 kilometers / Litre or 24MPG

I get about half that in the city due to lots of idling.

Interesting. Without the port matched intake, 180* stat, e-fan, aftermarket plugs and wires, and stock timing on a 4wd truck, I got the exact same fuel economy at 65-70 mph.

I was in need of a tune up. I popped the plugs out last weekend and they were far overdue.
Also, the entire trip is hills. Running through the rockies.

lol i would say a more then a few hills, you went thru the coastal mountains then the rocky mountains.
