How many miles on your 4.0?

When I got my Ranger it was like new and over the next ten years it's seen its fair share of abuse. It started out with 102,XXX back in the summer of 99 my cousin and I raced one of our friends in his Firebird and smoked it for a half mile thanks to the 4.0 Well now the truck is beat up but kept up approaching 358,000 on it with no major engine repairs. The only thing going wrong with it is the main bearings which were fine until I let some half-ass retarded boss of mine take the harmonic balancer of with an air hammer after failing to use the proper bolts for the puller just to change a bad leak from the front seal. It wasn't until driving it from Florida back to Detroit and waking up the next day to find out the old truck was on borrowed time. It's been almost 2 years now since the main bearings have started to go and yet I still drive this truck like I stole it and has yet to break down on me (knocks on wood) I have to admit overall after all the stuff I've put this truck through it amazes me to still go out and turn it over everyday. Oh yeah I amlmost forgot, I have never had to change the clutch on it yet or have any work on the trans done it's not bad for a lil old 2WD 4.0 with a 3.08 rear-end (just looked it up) I did put a trac-lock in it, but I want to drop a 5.0 EFI 5 speed or AOD w/floor shifter but I'm not sure if I want to keep the truck anymore it needs alot of internal body work for the prone rust areas like the kick panels and side cowls along the firewall I was pissed to come back from Cali one summer and open the door to find about 3 inches of water in the truck so that day I tore the carpet out and drilled some drain holes in the floor. I'm thinking of gettin a newer Ranger but not sure yet, I think this beast still has about 750,000 more miles to go LOL:icon_confused:

i just picked my 1999 4x4 up this week with 37,000 on the clock not too bad. just had to change out some rusted brake lines and a thermostate.

My '03 has 237k on all original big parts. The only component I've rebuilt is the alternator about 6k ago. PM is the key to lots of trouble-free miles..and a little luck!

i have 1993 ext cab 4.0 2wd xlt with salvage title( dam hail damage and stupid girl teens hitting my truck) with 183,xxx looks like shit but runs beter that any car i have seen or driven for its age and milage. but a question for all who have 200,000 + miles on thier truck. what fluids have you changed ? and how often have you changed your fluids? i ask cause i want to change transmition fluid and filter but scared to have it go out dont have the money to fix.

I got 206,600 miles on my 4.0l. Only things I have replaced are minor, common wear parts...altenator, water pump, ball joints, breaks, tires, etc. I burns some oil, about a quart every 1500-2000 miles.....guess shes just old. The transmission is really beat up though and so is the clutch...i have a rebuilt tranny and new clutch ready to go in though ! :yahoo:

I have 214,000 miles on my 94 4x4 4.0...good truck!

211k and counting on my 94 4.0L all original minus Tstat and idler pulley. Some lifter tick here and there and weepy valve cover gaskets, but runs like a raped ape, thousands of miles of life left in her :icon_thumby:

91' 146,000 not exact but im not goin to look just turned 146,000 3 weeks ago, runs and looks great except for the rad

My '04 has 217,000 and some change on it. Still runs like a champ though.

Just rolled over 041,000 yes thats 41k miles on a 1999. she ticks pretty damn good just dealing with rust issues as the previouse owner only used her durring winter months and parked her in a warm garage and let the salt eat at her. just had to put on a shinny tranny pan as the old one rusted through.

149k miles. Replaced valve cover gaskets a couple of times and the timing cover gasket but other than that, no problems. Still sounds like an old Ford tractor, just like it did when it was new.
