just curious as to how many miles you guys average on your SOHC 4.0s? I used to have a 2004 3.slow that i sold about 6 months ago (terrible decision cause that truck ran awesome), and now im buying my dads 4.0 4x4 automatic with 172,000 from him. What problems do the SOHC engines typically have with higher miles, and how long do they live?

I mean we have maintained the crap out of that truck. Oil changes every 4000 miles or so. The transmission was rebuilt back when it had about 115k. And with 4wd never getting used the transfercase has never been beat on, and has a L/S diff with 4.10 gears. and this truck runs like a champ.

Just trying to figure out how much more life this truck has left; 50k, 75k, 100k?

biggest problem with the sohc is the timing chain and tensioners. the ohv 4.0 imo is a much more reliable high milage engine

the timing chains were replaced around the same time the transmission was rebuilt. Do the tensioners get replaced at the same time too? i remember my dad took it to get done cause looking at it, it was like you had to jack the motor up just to get to front of the motor.
