how hot does automatic trans get?

I found a trans temp gauge that starts at 100 and goes to 250 degrees. I was wonder what the normal temperature for the automatic trans was.

The last vehicle I installed a transmission temp guage on was
a 400cid Dodge 3/4 ton van with a 727 torqueflite trans.

The guage I installed was max scale at 300F.

I never pinned it but it got to 275F a couple of times
before I installed a MUCH larger transmission cooler.
