How hot can a 2.9L stand?

i ran my old 2.9L up over 300 several times through out and most of one day. It still ran the next day lol

How bad was the snot on the oil cap? What about the blow-by?

It's not that it won't run (though that's one possible outcome). It's that it risks cracking heads.

2.9Ls will run OK with light to moderate head cracks, for a while anyway.

are you asking me?

Are you saying it goes to 210 AFTER you shut it down?

That wouldn't concern me. Many engines are designed to run near that when running, and cooling systems can't do anything about temperature after shutoff.

Yep. It will be at around 190-200 while driving (in the summer) and if I peek back at the mechanical temp guage a couple minutes after shutting it off it will be roughly 10 degrees hotter.

I am just being over cautious as always.

I was noticing lately when I shut off the truck the temp guage goes from 190 over to about 210 before it starts the cooldown cycle.

Yeah, thats normal.

While towing the ATV this weekend in the hills and using the A/C I had the temp get to 200 on me while driving.

My 2.9 runs 215-220 normally. Yes I have a new stat and a explorer rad but I suspect that it's partially plugged.
