How Hard Is This?

I'm suprised no one else from Canada has chimed in yet. He's from Newfoundland. EVERYTHING will be rusted and siezed. Might as well get the torch out now.

As for the drinking at 13, I'm not suprised. Boggin being from Newfoundland. Still doesn't make it right.

Why not just replace the clutch and then worry about getting the bed off after it moves? Not too bad of a job on a 4 banger ranger, I'm sure its not too much different on a Mazda. Or is there internal transmission damage?

i am going to risk sticking my foot in mouth, but if you had mechanical linkage i'd hafta say something is out of adjustment, and that only because you get a little movement in 4LO 1st gear, the only thing that throws that out the window is the fact you said it was smoking. my next question, which nobody else asked, does your truck shift through the gears when it is running or does it grind? if it shifts normal, other than no movement, i would check the transfer case. please note that on your specific set-up i am not that familiar, but it has been my experience with other clutch systems that when the clutch goes out they either grind going into gear or if they are not all the way gone they slip real bad and smell even worse. FWIW, good luck and for being 13 ya gotta lotta sand, wish my step kid had that much enthusiasum:D
I Know what you mean, I just took what you said earlier the wrong way, thats all..
And i rarley ever drink, like i said before...

Well Today i was out at the bed removal, and not one single bolt on that whole truck will budge, she really is a rust bucket, im goin out of town for a few hours so i will post the pics when im back,

BUT, THERE IS ONE GOOD THING, (i think..)
my truck will actually atempt to move, in 1st gear, 4LO it will move a wee bit,
heres a vid:

That "smokin like a jew" thing...if it smelled like burning brakes, that was your clutch. Don't think I agree with the "grinding" into gear with a blown clutch, all the ones I've blown, didn't make any difference whether the clutch is in or out when you shift, because the clutch disc was too worn out to make contact with the flywheel. Like there isn't anything there, or like Bog says, just barely engages and takes a lot of rpm to get it to move a couple feet. Grinding usually happens when there's air in the line and the clutch doesn't fully release, unless you have an actual linkage, then it could be out of adjustment, but I don't think there are any RBVs that don't have a hydraulic clutch system.

Yeah...unless it's sitting in a mudhole, I'd swap the clutch first. You'll prolly want to put a new slave cylinder in it too, if you're dealing with a lot of rust, you don't wanna have to crack them puppies loose any more than you have to. Prolly a good idea to replace the bolts as you pull them also, rusty bolt heads get rounded real easy and it's a total PITA to get them out next time.

Doesn't make it wrong either. There are lots of places in the world where, if you're old enough to put the money on the bar, you're old enough to drink. Kinda like sex...how is being 18 any different than being 17? or 16? or 14? I know a damn lot of people who shouldn't be drinking at ages above 30. I'm not promoting "underage" drinking, but on the other hand, what's the first thing kids do when they turn 18 or 21 and haven't been allowed to drink or been educated about the effects of alcohol? they go straight to the bar, get hammered, and lots get killed. Sounds to me like this kid has his shit together, he'd rather be working on his truck than trying to scam the clerk at the 7-11 for a six-pack. And honestly, the only way any of us actually learn anything about anything, is thru experience.

dude, i seen that you were viewing my thread and i just new you were goin to say something that dont encourage me, and how can you call me less capable of what i think i am, who the hell are you to say that, and what does drinking have to do with any of this, you always were a bubble burster, and i know alot of people say it, see the bottom quote in my sig? thats about you, not alot of people like you man,

it is deffinatley a 2 man job, regardless of what you say, it wont slide

and if you even think about drinkin at 13, u need something better to do
ya i do drink sometimes, but dont do it all the time cuz thats when theres probs

and yes, you are less capeable than you think you are, theres always something that will really chalange you, im still learning something everyday

you may be a good mechanic for your age, you may be strong, but help is never a bad thing to have

Again, Why are you saying im less capable of what i think i am?
And I know help is a good thing thats why im posting, duhh..

Ill make this clear, I KNOW WHAT IM CAPABLE OF, IM NOT CAPABLE OF ALOT BUT IM SAYING IM MORE THAN USUAL CAPABLE FOR MY AGE

You indicated that you were going to consume alcohol.

I hate to interject in this, but if you knew any Newfies (not a slight to people from Newfoundland) or East Coasters from Canada you'd know that many of them are actually weened on alcohol...I went to school with a guy from Halifax NS and he was only 18 but could out-drink anybody I knew...and I do know quite a few drinkers that pack the stuff away like it was iced tea...

Anyways...if Boggin hasn't had his noggin bent out of shape by alcohol at 13 then I'd suspect he is quite different than most of the East Coasters that I've met...but that's not a bad thing...

i agree fully. this guy is fixing his truck at 13! what were you doing at 13? i wasn't even thinking about what i was gonna drive. i didn't even know how to use a drill :dunno:.

i would like to second the "get a buddy to help" idea. i got a buddy who helps out. even if they don't know what they are doing it helps to have someone hold, lift, move, get something. or even just someone to keep you company. or maybe you will turn out like me and get your friend to do all the work while you drink beer. :taunt:. seriously though, me and my buddy are always helping each other, and it seems that its always me fixing his truck, or him fixing mine. not sure how that works. Good times, good memories...

as for the newfie remarks: i'm from newfoundland but i'm a lightweight. i'm like 122lbs and a 6 pack gets me pretty drunk. I LOVE newfoundland beers though. mmmmmmmmmmmm i need to go "back home" soon... trying my best not to thread jack this again.

dare i ask why your taking the bed off? making it a flatbed?

Hey Boggin you're gonna torch your motor revvin it up like that. Just a friendly piece of advice from when I was your age. :)

And laws are never wrong, and you've never broken one. I get it...

But just so he doesn't get away with thinking he's totally right and that I don't have any parenting skills, and I can't believe any of the "snipers" didn't pick up on this......Boggie! buddy!!Taking someone else's car (even your brother's) without their permission is WAY more wrong than underage drinking. Unless they don't have felonies in Canada (it's a felony here in the states), you can TRULY f-up your life doing that. If anything should happen, and I've been in three wrecks from the other person running stopsigns (almost killed twice), your brother would have to decide whether he should take the blame or tell the cops you stole it. Here in the states, someone who loans their car to someone else is equally responsible for the borrowers actions. If you should happen to have the misfortune of actually hurting someone else in an accident, even if it's not your fault, if your in a stolen car you're in a world of S***. A felony (here in the states anyway) is on your record for life, will keep you from getting jobs, will keep you from owning guns, will keep you from being able to vote, will get you hassled by the cops for rediculously piddly s*** for the rest of your life, cops will ALWAYS think you're guilty of whatever, and lots and lots of people will generally consider you to be a worthless scumbag POS. Even if it's not your fault. WAY worse than underage drinking. And if you happen to have been drinking and some nasty s*** happens like that...you don't even have to be "drunk" for EVERYONE to think you're worse than the absolute worst POS. You really don't want that.
