How hard is it to work at McDonalds??

It's always people that don't have a clue.

Wonder if he ever heard of 'the misery index' under Carter, or remember his 'national malaise' that looks great compared to today's economy.
Probably not, schools don't teach the failures of liberals in history.....

But I'll stop there before this becomes a political debate.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled discussion of food! lol

dude, sorry, but no, if you think working at mcdonalds is hard, you need to learn to do manual labor, because thats probably the only job that i think takes less mental capacity...

the only thing that i couldn't make, that mcdonalds makes, is the big mac, and the only reason i say that, i don't have the order of that one burger memorized...

honestly, even most of the specialty sandwiches that are only around for a limited time, i know them... and i don't eat there all that often...

slightly off topic, check out what they are serving in eastern canada right now:

i wasnt saying it was a hard job. i was saying that idiots work there, i know this, so i dont eat there and when i do, i'm not expecting much

I know i have a bad attitude about work sometimes, i drive a yard truck and i do what i feel is worth my pay, i feel like alot of people have that attitude, if you want me to double what i do, or care more, up my pay. We dont get stuff for free, why should they?

We have to have the worst McDonalds here in Salem, Lisbon, and Columbiana Ohio.

It's about demographics, not the changing attitude of today's youth.

You live in a chronically depressed area and I would imagine that tends to cause attitudes to be worse than in areas with a little better prospects. I'm fortunate to live in an area with reasonably low unemployment. The median family income where you live is $27,500 and where I live it's $52,300. You have only 41% of families with married couples living together and we have 52%.

Around here you generally have clean bathrooms and good service.

Come on now Blue. We are talking about McDonald's.

Calling it food is being a little generous.

Todays youth as a whole has a shitty attitude though ive noticed, actually, seems like everyone now a days has a shitty attitude, i have a shitty attitude at work but i still work hard and get the job done.

But as far as fast "food" goes Mcdonalds is hit or miss, Burgerking tends to be more miss then hit, and wendys seems to be more hit then miss, The absoulte WORSE fast food place by FAR is taco bell when it comes to service. KFC is running a close second when it comes to bad. They seem to hire McDonalds rejects.

that wasn't directed at you

McDonald's was, for a long time, a relatively inexpensive place to eat...and their service was always excellent...the food, on the other hand...was something on par with the dollar store selection compared with, say, Zellers or even K-Mart...

I have recently found (because I stopped eating at them due to financial issues) that they are not even close to being the least expensive place to eat...and the service is usually pretty good where I am...

But I think the general mentality is to hire in volume as opposed to quality...which usually gives you lower quality with more of them to screw something up...

Nothing against workers at McDonald's...most of them at the one I frequent are very nice people...but with all their specials and discounts and adjustments and added charges ($0.40 for a slice of tomato?????) it's not hard to screw something up...or easily jack the price of a seemingly inexpensive meal into a major freaking expense...

Ahhhhhhh...I love this place...lol

One thing I will say is we dont get paid enough aroundf there for what we do. Recently there has been changes and they are continuing and we are still being paid the same to do more work. The free meal that we get everytime we work has been effected too. We use to be able to get ice cream or a smoothie but due to the "food bill going up" due to it, it was taken away but yet my meals were always under $6 (limit is $7) but yet took a manager to approve of our meals. Managers have no limit to what they can get meal wise.

Mcdonalds isnt as much as an idiots job as it is a stepping stone job. Also if your wanting a simple McDouble, I know I cant go to the store and make one for a buck but when you come to McDonalds and are ordering $20+ dollars in food a day for your family, thats when you just need to go to walmart aross the street and buy your meals for cheaper and cook them, I can get alot more food for $20 at walmart then McDonalds anyday.

All I cn say s until you have worked there, you really have no clue what it is like. I also cant believe people put thier lives at risk by coming through drivethrough wanting there stuff made a certian way due to be diabetic or lactose intalerant, etc.... Either come inside and do it yourself or just make your food at home, plain and simple.

And that's the problem today. You can be replace at most place by someone in less than a week. They hire in volume where I work cause they know 1) half the people won't show up the first day 2) they figure more people is better. They don't realise though more people makes it more difficult. It's impossible to get enough hrs to live on...

The problem doens't just lie with the worker's though it's the managment staff too. They cause alot of problem Iknow of many places where the managers sit on there butts in the back and never see the front line and they think they know the best way to do things.. Although they haven't set foot on the floor in years.

Pay is the big thing too I work at DollyWood in Pigeon Forge, been there 5 yrs never worked anywhere else and I'm still making under $8 and hr. I have recently been taking over manger resposobilities because of an assistant walking off the job. The dumb ass managers refuse to give me the position or atleast a bump in pay for the work. But I stick around cause this time of year another job is very hard to come by.

Ok Rant over I got way off topic.

This is a trend I see as a serious problem with the workforce. I hear every day "I'll do more when they pay me more". Problem is, even if those folks do get a raise, they don't do any more. I see it as it should be "when you do more, I'll pay you more, but you must maintain that level to keep that pay".
I started working for $3.15/hr. I have made as much as $1500/week. I don't make near that now, but I have great benefits. Get over yourselves people. It's called work. It's not called "getting a paycheck just because you show up and take up space on the premises." Show some initiative, do your job to the best of your ability. If you feel you have earned a raise, document your case and take it to your super. If you don't get results, start looking for another job.

willindsay, you're getting hosed. I admire your attitude of loyalty, but you really should be having a series of talks with whoever's in charge. For what you pay to get in there, I would hope they would pay the workers more than that. Document what all you've been doing and find out why you haven't been considered for the position. Be prepared to leave if you don't get what you have earned. And, if you find another job, take it.
