how does a lockright work?

how does a lock right work exactly? thats whats known as a lunch box locker right? is it like welding the spiders with out the welding? are they cheap? easy to put in? i will probably never buy one but, just want to know how they work.:bad:
 
Here's a picture of my Aussie (same as lock-right). The outer splined pieces go on the axle shafts, the inner pieces are called "drivers", the crosspin passes through the drivers which have a slightly oval hole, when power is applied the crosspin forces the 2 drivers outwards and locks them to the side gears, when you let off one side is allowed to uncouple for turning. And they're the greatest thing since sliced bread :D
