How do you test 4x4 switch?

I have a 94 ranger with the electronic 4x4 - did all the diagnostics with the shift computer thing and wiring between it and the switch and it all says its ok. When i hit the shift button, i get no click, no lights, no nothing. I am leaning towards thinking it is a switch issue because i have continuity between pins 4 and 5 all the time and no continuity between any other pins at any time. How do I test the switch to make sure? Thanks

The usual problem is the shift motor, I would take that off and inspect it. It only takes an hour or so. Or go to the junkyard and replace the switch. A new switch is $40! The switches are usually ok though - 99% of the time it is the shift motor - the little stop inside breaks and this confuses the computer and causes it not to work!
In the junkyard you'll also find the switches in older explorers - I have a spare switch if you get stuck - dont pay $40 for one!!
