I have a 1977 f150 with a 351m auto that I would love to swap into my ranger, but I would also want the axle from that truck. Does anybody know how to shorten up the rear to fit under the ranger? I think I have all the necessary equipment I'm just looking for some advice.

Just curious, but why do you want to shorten it as apposed to running it full width?

I know when I start cutting into mine, I am using full width axles front and rear. But, I also don't know your situation.

Back on topic...

Being a fabricated housing, they work really well with sleeved style narrowing. The main thing to keep in mind is making the pucks and having the tube to make the jig, to keep everything straight while you weld it.

Moser will shorten a 9" for like $100 and they cut and re spline axles for like $60 each...?? I think currie does as well.

Anyway, good luck.

You can narrrow pretty much any axle, some and just easier and cheaper than others. Not something I suggest a novice to do but with the proper skills and tools it can be done at home. I would suggest new housing ends rather than trying to reuse the originals. As far as shafts most will have to be custom ordered. Unless you can find a 9in that does not have tapered shafts. If that is the case you can send them to a driveline shop, have them shortened and resplined.
