How do you take this clip off? The last time it took forever twisting, cutting, unable to cut right to the stud, etc. Gotta be a better way.

Unscrew it.

Or torch.

Depends on how much you like your studs :icon_twisted:

I wouldn't bother putting them back on FWIW.

It should unscrew. Or you could take needle nose pliers and bend those little tabs back away from the stud so they aren't holding anything any more. Then it should slide off. That was just a way for the axle manufacturing plant to deliver the axle to the truck assembly plant without the drums falling off. You don't need them.

I grab them with a pair of side cutters and twist until they break.

I never worried about leaving them off. The last time they would not unscrew. And easier said than done on gripping with needle nose. This time it's a 2011 with 70,000 miles on it, some of which were New England salty road driving, so I'm not optimistic.

Just wait a few more minutes. They'll rust off.

Hammer and sharp chisel. One good hit (at the red line) on each side and it falls off...

What if his clips don't have the red line?;missingteeth;
Well, technically, it's an orange line. But it's a decent idea, I'll give that a try once I decide what rotors to use.

enough rust and the drums seize to the axle flanges, Ive broke more than one drum from banging on it to get the rust bond to release. Anti-seize your next ones, dont over do it but a light coating and the will come off easier the next time. on the clips I use a small chiesel or screwdriver to start then break them off with needle nose pliers.

I’d say it’s a decent idea... I’ve removed hundreds of them that way. If anyone knows a faster way, I’d love to hear it.

Side cutters... I would have them all off before you walked to your box to get a hammer and chisel.

I used to use cutters too, until someone showed me a faster way. It takes the same amount of time to get out the side cutters as it does to grab a hammer and chisel.

Trust me, I’ve shown tons of flat rate mechanics that way over the years... they all use it. Speed = money with flat rate.

Not saying it doesn't work... just can't see how it would be faster then grabbing a tab on that nut with side cutters and twisting it.

Seriously if it took more then 2 seconds I would be surprised.
