How do you like your 5g?

I would rather get a Colorado, or a Toyota, or a pre '11 ranger.

It's common on 150's but I could see stock ordered Rangers being different.

One perk of not going FX... you can get much more durable chrome bumpers.

Not sure what you mean... there's a Chrome package and if you pick that package, and an FX4, you still get the chrome bumpers.

Not on an XL

The only way for an XL to get the FX4 is to be an STX... STX is at odds with the chrome package.

Thanks for clarifying that for me!

Ford sure do some weird stuff, don't they? Forcing the 101A package and changing from XL to STX when FX4 is selected... but deleting all that if you just want the Chrome Appearance Package?

I personally think the chrome bumpers would look great in combination with the 6-spoke 17" wheels. But I don't want to deal with mag chloride and salt attacking them.

The XL/STX/FX4 song and dance has always struck me as kind of silly...

They do have okish looking black with silver lip wheels for a measily grand in the accessory section. I can see some things but I don't see why they won't let you get the alloys separate from STX.

When I wanted one I wanted Saber which is a STX only color for XL. It put me at odds because I would rather not have the painted bumpers... not that chrome and Saber would really click anyway. My thought was at least if they started rusting being dark it would be easy to wirewheel and repaint them black.

Whatever happened to Eddie Bauer? Classy stuff...

I have a sneaking suspicion that Eddie bauer and l.l bean are selling me the same honey.

My absolute max budget is 30k, so I'm pretty much limited to a 4x4 XL. I WOULD like the fx4 package for the skids and locking diff but unless I can find a deal on a real low mileage used one it looks like ill have to do without.

All I can do is give you the review and opinion on what I have. Unfortunately, it's not a match for what you can afford. Hopefully, it is of some help to you though. You could check out TFL Truck on Youtube too. They might have done a review on something closer by now. Last I saw, they had only done the Crew Cabs they were given by Ford to review.

That's part of the reason I mentioned posting what you more specifically were looking for. From what I understand, the FX4 shocks are damped softer than the other trim levels. I believe others to have mentioned that before. In any case, there are a few different trim level and cab configuration owners. So, hopefully, we can get you a good feeling at what you are wanting to look at buying.

I will say that for once, Ford seems to have properly matched power plant output to what the truck should have.

Paper is made from trees.

If it cant withstand banging a tree at 5-10mph with no damage its not worthy of being called a bumper.

2 tons moving 10mph is a lot of force. Im sure theres a mathematic formula to find out how thick of steel a bumper would need to be to not deform on impact... but im bad at math so someone else can figure it out lol.

Hint...a factory stock bumper up untill 97 (fullsize ford atleast) will handle it pretty unscathed.
