How do you like your 5g?

We might need to take that to the staff section and have a meeting.

I’m pretty sure the 2019+ Rangers are consider 6G.

Anyway, what specific trim and cab configuration are you looking at for us to nit pick?

For my Supercrew STX FX4, the nit picks I have off the top of my head is the soft dampening of the shocks (kinda floaty/bouncy), possibly a weak sway bar but that might be the shocks, and poor visibility out the back because of the tall bed sides.

In cabin storage is a bit wanting but I like having a bunch or road side equipment stuff just in case.

For now, that is about it. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the buy. It was a bit of a gamble buying a first year truck but the problems and recalls have a been minimal considering.

My absolute max budget is 30k, so I'm pretty much limited to a 4x4 XL. I WOULD like the fx4 package for the skids and locking diff but unless I can find a deal on a real low mileage used one it looks like ill have to do without.

Opinions seem to vary on that? Weird. Some folks say 2019 is 4th and some say 5th gen. and you're saying 6th (y)
4th Gen
5th Gen
6th Gen

We were reluctant about buying our 2019 Ford Ranger, having driven Tacoma's since 1997... over 200,000 trouble free miles. But I can report 12,600 trouble free miles on our Ranger. We bought it in Sep 2019.

At this point I would certainly recommend buying a 5th generation Ranger!

One thing to note: We bought an XL to avoid as much of the technology as possible. Less is more.

Thanks for the input. You bought my ideal truck right there, unfortunately I don't think the fx4 package will be in the budget. Boo.

I don't think you have to get fx4 to get the locking diff.

You are right, It's a $420 option. But the 2 XL trucks looks vastly different with / without the FX4 option

You get a lot with the :stop:$1,295 :haha: FX4 package:

17" Alloy wheels, Tuned off-road monotube shocks, off-road tires with aggressive tread and traction-enhancing electronic-locking rear differential. There’s also an exposed steel front bash plate, skid plates for the electric power-assist steering (EPAS) electric motor, transfer case and fuel tank. And inside, a cluster screen provides feedback on pitch and roll plus steering angle. Included also are the Terrain Management System™ and Trail Control™ providing off-road technology.

Unfortunately picking the FX4 package on an XL Ranger also triggers the 101A Package which kicks in:
  • Cruise Control
  • Perimeter Anti-Theft Alarm
  • Power Glass Sideview Mirrors
  • Remote Key Fob with Tailgate Lock
and another $1,135 So the FX4 is really a $2,430 option on an XL trim level Ranger

Your right, its an option in and of itself. I'm just gonna buy a truck off the lot though so its a roll of a dice weather ill find what I really want or not. Ordering a truck WOULD be nice, but the wait would kill me. Couldn't do it lol.

I was surprised when I found out how cheap of an option the diff was by itself.

It's common on 150's but I could see stock ordered Rangers being different.

One perk of not going FX... you can get much more durable chrome bumpers.

I read something the other day... I haven't verified it though. But if you get the locking rear differential... the ring gear isn't welded to the carrier. If that is the case... $420 is a no brainer.

I just couldn't spend my dollars on a 6th gen... when I believe the 7th gen is so close and will have much more to offer. At least I hope it does anyway. After seeing Ford go after Jeep... I can't believe they are going to produce the best in class mid size truck.

Bumpers don't matter too much to me, as I'd like to eventually put fabbed bumpers on it. Well see what happens!

That would be nice, the gear not being welded to the carrier. Huge plus there, ill have to do some searching and mabey find some verification.

But itd be 3x the truck.

even with the 4x4 and crew cab the new rangers are rated to tow 6,700 lbs.

I’m not saying I would want a new ranger before a 77 F-150.

However, on paper, I bet the ranger looks better.

On paper.

Real world? No.

You don't live in the real world though. You live in an alternate reality stuck in 1975...
The 150 has more ground clearence, real body panels, real axles, (possibly) a manual trans, real bumpers, simple, rugged, reliable engines, a useable bed....

Like i said...its a better truck.
