how do you get old pine sap off?

I have noticed some small dark spots on my pait, the only thing I can think of is pine sap that's been on the truck for a while. I've tried regular soap/water, wax, clay bar. Someone said try wd40 or nail polish remover. Those did nothing. I bought some bag/tar/sap remover but that was a waste of money. Next I'm thinking about some paint thinner or laquor thinner. Maybe some rubbing compound on an orbital buffer? I'm running out of things to try. I've even thought about getting some wet sandpaper and taking off the clearcoat and getting it redone. Anyone have any suggestions???

Getting some aggressive cleaner wax and a buffer is probably the bast that you can do. The pine pitch has probably reacted with your clear coat and etched it. Nothing much you can really do unless you have enough clear to wet sand and buff and not have to put down more clear.

the very best way is to go to the 99 cent store and buy a bottle of mayonnaise. spread the mayonnaise over the areas let it sit for 15 minutes then wipe it off. some spots may need to sit longer. good luck.

When we lived in PINEVILLE LA. (you can guess they named it Pineville) there was sap on the car all the time. I took a ice cube and held it on the tree sap till the cube melted and then used a plastic scraper to pop it off. Some of the older stuff took two or three cubes.

Apparently Deep Woods OFF does the best job...followed closely by hand sanitizer and Mayonaise...now if I could just find a sap covered vehicle I could make a fortune...lol!

Methyl Hydrate (gas line antifreeze). Used to use it all the time in the body shop for sap, tar, and anything else like that.

well i don't know how in the world i got this post in the suspension section, but i had a heck of a time finding it lol. so i've some of the stuff here at the house, i'll give em a shot and see how it works! thanks

The question sounds like the first part of a bad joke someone would tell here in the Piney Woods of East Texas - I had to take a look . . . curiously enough, we use standard household Pine-Sol cleaner down here. Sort of a fire vs. fire thing I guess.
