I have a 94 ranger with the 4.0 and would like to install a turbo however I have no idea how I could tune it as it is OBD1. Are there any chips I could use that would allow me to tune it myself or perhaps with a dyno?

Megasquirt.

Obd 2 system from later truck....and line up with a Dyno tuner....before build and figure out component selection.

Can I simply take one of the later year ecus and plug them into my wiring harness? also will I be able to in the tuning get rid of the codes for missing sensors such as the cam sensor that I don't have.

No. You need the whole system.

And can modify from there.

One is total cavepig....the 60 pin obd1

The later is mostly cavepig...and 104 pin.

Hp tuners is limited with those in terms of people that deal with them....but doable.

Best bet is to just run the megasquirt....

Your saying use a megasquirt ecu?

Megasquirt. You have to invest time researching.

Sloppy mechanics has some great resource video. And the forums for megasquirt.

I have been researching this for a while for my own forced induction build. the EEC-IV system is a dinosaur, there is no way to tune it without a piggyback chip (Moates Quarterhorse or Tweecer RT) if you have a federal emissions truck in 94 it is batch fire and in order to use a later Ford EEC you would need to convert it to sequential using a California emissions wiring harness from a 93 or 94. The early EEC-V trucks were not externally tuneable either IIRC so you would need to do a bit of research on what years would work best. The EEC-V also eliminates the need for an EDIS module so you would need to do some wiring there too. Megasquirt is a viable option and will run pretty much anything. They also make a pnp MS-2 that will plug right into the 60 pin EEC-IV connector, it's meant for Mustangs so I can't confirm if it is wired correctly to work on a Ranger but I'm sure someone has tried it before so there are probably answers out there. Currently researching the best route for mine and that is looking more and more like the route I'm going to take.

Megasquirt.

It's interesting to build from scratch and you learn alot while doing it.

Than you have control over everything.

I run a megasquirt diypnp 60 pin on a 2.9.

Use megasquirt.

Also, do not attempt any FI without a wideband.

Especially since you can get megasquirt prebuilt now for vehicles that lots of people mod. What do they call it? The ones already built that plug into your vehicle? Dang, I cannot remember
