How do I override the clutch pedal for a remote start

Okay folks, I bought a nice nifty alarm and it has the remote start feature, I looked in the "other" forms and could not find anything, so I have come to the "PreRunners" as we do such strange stuff, I have to imagine that someone has disabled their clutch for an automatic swap or something...so what two wires can I cut and splice together?

I am going to take a look in a day or two but thought I would get a head start and see if someone has done this and remembers the wires to cut and splice.

Phil :dunno:

hey,
I dont have a remote start, but I put in an auto trans and I'm pretty sure that the neutral switch for my B&M shifter is wired to the bottom two terminals on the harness going to the clutch. I think the plug has like 6 connections, the top two i believe are to cut off the cruise control when the clutch is pushed, the middle two, i'm not sure. I know they are are wired in pairs, so just take a jumper wire and jump each pair 'til you get the truck to start.

but it seems like putting a remote start in a manual truck is a bad idea. I read somewhere, here or on another ranger forum about someone who had one on a manual, He let a friend borrow the truck who left it in reverse when parked, the guy went to remote start the truck the next mourning, and it took off across the street backwards and wrecked into a wall. once it's started, there's no way to turn it off.

need to create a jumper so the switch thinks its always pushed in, the people who installed it should have done that for you if you asked. the switch will be on the back of the pedal

you can disable the jumper but run the r/s through the ngs and e brake switch for sure, tough call for safety.

I agree that using the clutch over ride will be at my own risk, but on those occassions I thought it would be nice to have, so I can either turn the heater on for a few minutes before I get in, or the A/C on before I get in.

I am installing the alarm as the last one worked great until I went playing around and then it was getting beat to death under the dash as it had broke loose. This one I am mounting for those "fun days"...

I will take pictures and take notes for all when I drive under the dash tomorrow!

what the? You drove that thing out there? snow?

Thanks folks, well except PRERUNIN554 as he did not contribute anything worthwhile :icon_rofl: I just threw a wire into the loom for today and tomorrow I am going to run it through my eBrake (not sure how yet, probably a relay as I think the eBrake is negative set).

However, today I was out and about and did not have a ton of time to play with it.

BTW, who has put over twenty gallons in their stock ranger tank before, I was just not paying attention and it must have really been on fumes! :shok:

I thought you could figure it out yourself! Plus I am still concerned about that white stuff on your truck!

Yes the pink and the red/blue are the wires you need to jumper. The other wires are just as important.

I always thought it was a bad idea to set up comand start on a manual trans vehicle. A guy I used to work with had one on his BMW and he drove it through the front of his garage and the car ended up in his pond in the back yard.

That wouldn't work so good for me, as I leave it in gear (and don't use the emergency brake, its for emergencies!?!). Trying to remember to leave it in neutral and not have it roll down a hill (e-brake or not) would rattle my nerves.

that would be the shits, hit the button and your ranger takes off through the front of a store window with no one driving it. haha.

haha unless you run someone over.

that's a good idea going through the e-brake, although the e-brake doesn't always keep the truck from taking off - have you ever done like me and drive around with the e-brake on until you smell the smoke and remember to turn it off.
The relay method sounds like the best way. you could also wire it to a switch, that way if someone ever borrows the truck, you could flip the switch - like a valet mode, to be safe. but that doesn't guarantee you wont leave it in gear with the switch on and forget - you're probably smarter than me, but i'm sure if I did that, one of these days, i'd forget to leave it in neutral, cause i'm so used to leaving a standard truck in gear so it dont roll.

copykat - what's the green wires for, I never figured that out on mine, I have the starter wires and the cruise wires jumped, but not the middle ones.

my daughter just got a remote start for her car for $80 - but it's not part of an alarm system, just the rem start.

Just FYI, there are remote starters designed for manual transmission vehicles.

Basically, when you park, but before shutting the engine off and exiting, the system must be set (typically by pressing a dash switch or the remote) for a remote starting later.
Then when you turn the key off (in neutral), the remote starter keeps the engine running.

Open the door, exit the truck, close the door and press the remote.
The engine stops, and the remote starter will now allow one later remote starting, except if a door is opened prior.

These kinds of systems are readily available, and it's the best way to go with a manual transmission truck.

A lot of the M5ODs have a neutral switch on them. (On the top cover, right side, next to the shifter) I used this switch when I wired up my remote start. If the truck isnt in neutral it wont start.
