No, not Kwame, I'm talking about the govenor on my 94 Ranger 2.3 sticker shift. The thing about the truck is that it has the areodynamics of a brick with a open parachute behind it, so why does it even have a govenor? It only lets me do about 90 in 5th gear before something limits the fuel and then i have to start all over again. How can I disable the thing?
Thanks,
Derek

Firt of all take it to the track.

Secondly, a tuner will take away the limiter.

That's very amusing to hear that you want to go faster then 90 on a stock 2.3 ranger.

Do you want to act like you have a faster engine if you disable this?

How exactly did you manage to get your ranger to go that fast? Downhill? How many RPM are you spinning at that speed? It might be the rev limiter.

It is the rev limiter.

well, it takes a looooong time let me tell you. Eventually though it gets there, and doesnt need to go down hill to do it. I dont go that fast often at all but jeez it will do no more than 100 on its own so there is no reason for the limiter. How can i disable the thing? What do you mean by tuner Jspafford?

Well i putzed around the site and deduced that a tuner is a scanner.. A scanner would be great if i planned to use it more than once a year, but beyond disableing the rev limiter i have no use for it.. I wonder if i can take it to a dealership and have them disable the thing, or go to autozone and pirate their's for 5-10 minutes and do it myself.. Ok though, those routes cost, and I'm curious to see if theres a budget way to do this. What i've noticed is the rev limiter doesn't kick in unless i'm in 5th gear, so that tells me that something is giving me away to the computer. Is it the neutral safety switch? If it is, is there a way to fiddle with it so that it doesn't know what gear I'm in??
Thanks fellas,
Derek

Ok, the rev limiter should be active in any gear... Chances are you never noticed it in 4th, because you didn't get that fast.

A tuner is not a scanner.. Do a google on Bama Chips. They boost power, change shift points, allow to run higher octane fuel, etc.

No one is going to disable it for you, what's the point of having it if any dealer would shut if off when someone asked them to?

There is no need to go faster than 85 in a pickup truck anyway.

Well then, its gotta be a speed limiter, not a rev limiter. Too get my butt past 85 i took 4th gear as far as i thought it could go, ~75 mph. At that speed the engine sounded like it was gonna grenade so i put it in 5th to make the engine happy and soon after it started to slow itself down, then speed back up and so on.. Maybe there is a buffer box connected to the spedo cable or sumthin, I dunno thats why im askin. And in southeast Michigan, there is plenty need to go faster than 85. In the morning commuting to work its not uncommon to be passed doin 80.

I think most of us don't want to help you make your commute more unsafe than it already is. That's why nobody is flocking to your aid. Go ask a company that messes with the engine controller. The computer in there is where the speed limiter is.

Alrighty then, this post was mainly outa curiosity. 90 mph isnt that bad, im not there constantly either- i like to have a lil fun, doesnt hurt ne one and i sure as hell do not go that fast in heavy traffic. In the morning commute for example, if its between 3 or 5 AM (depending on what time they want me to come in) there's no one on the road whatso ever, wheres the harm in that? At 7 AM im doin <75 the entire way b/c of traffic..

D.B.A.D. Well see i dont belong to that group, which is why i want to disable it
