How do I disable the Govenor?

im not 100% sure on this but isnt the rev limiter and speed limiter there so you dont hurt the engine

Sorry, if you tried to drive faster than the rev limiter allowed, your in that
group!!

Just check the number of hits this thread has, 284 so far.. I'm sure other people want to know how to disable the dam thing as well. If someone passed me doin 90 i couldnt care any less, I'm actually surprised by the reactions here. The truck is not hard to control at 90, i'm not gonna take any corners with it but given a nice straight shot, sure. If i lied to you guys and told you i was creating some wicked 4 banger with the stock computer for the track only, the responses probably would have been different. I just dont like the fact that its limited, my bros 97 doesnt have a limiter and thats great. Where is the sensor that detects my speed? Is it the RABS sensor?

Jspafford answered you 10 minutes after you posted the question for the first time.

If you think TTB suspension can take a solid pothole at 90 MPH without your hands on the wheel (that's what "handles well" means), you really shouldn't be driving. It is PRECISELY for people like you that speed limiters exist.

TTB suspension doesn't "handle well" at 30 MPH, let alone 90. It drives like a truck. Not a sports car. Body roll is highly noticeable even in a straight line at 90 MPH, and the truck's reactions to crosswinds are not good at that speed.

if you wanna go faster then 75 buy your self a car then trucks aren't made to go fast and handle

i know how to do it for free or close to free, but if you can't figure it out you don;t need to know how to do it, or to be going that fast

Stupid questions seem to draw a lot of attention!!!;missingteeth;

The majority of the population know the limitations of the Ranger, and wouldn't even consider driving it at speeds close to the rev limiter!

Yeah, everyone is an ambulance chaser at heart.

well i will admit when i first got the truck under the lemon law warranty i hit the limiter twice about 1 in the morning. i have a 4.0 auto. anyway the limiter is set at 97 on pretty much all rangers unless u have a tuner. A tuner will not get rid of your limiter but it raises it to a unreachable speed. ex a friend of mine has a S-10 limiter set on 97 as well he put a tuner in it and his limiter is now set at like 215 MPH.

The rev limiter is there for stupid people's protection!

Relax. This site is about people, their Rangers and how to mod them or get max performance out of them. If he wants to rod the hell out of his truck than let him. If you have no useful advice than don't answer. If you know how to answer the question but don't want to tell than that's ok also. So if your truck only does 90 than get the hell out of my way because I'm going to pass you, in my CAR.

That might be sensible on a track, or on a CLOSED highway where he only risks himself.

But the small car he spreads all over the pavement is likely not to be his.

I don't care if he splatters his own brains all over the road. But I do care about the 3 year old playing ball by the side of the road, or the high school kid driving home from school, that he takes with him.

Speed kills, and it doesn't just kill the offender.

Bad judgment and overestimation of skills kill as well.

Have you ever SEEN a 90+ MPH crash? It's not a fender-bender.

Oh pitty the kids.. Why is it everytime when a topic like this comes along people always throw the kids in to the equation?? Listen, If any kid is dumb enough to play ball on the freeway he almost deserves to get picked off - active natural selection in the process. And to stay response specific, most teenagers that drive on the freeway SHOULDN'T drive on the freeway, you want to talk about wreckless driving, there you have it. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, when I drive fast I do it in a STRAIGHT LINE. I'm very aware of what I'm driving. I wouldnt drive fast in unfavorable conditions, or on any road I have never been down, just incase there are chunks of pavement missing. 90 mph isnt that fast, its 20 over for chrissakes. Its my ticket not yours, so calm down already.

A straight line is the wrong answer when there is a pothole in your way or debris on the road or a deer decides "safe" is the other side.

You're rationalizing, and you're going to kill someone. If it were just you, that would be your business (as well as the poor sop who had to clean up the mess). But it isn't.

You're right that some (I won't go as far as "most") teenagers shouldn't drive on the freeway. The part you simply don't get is that this includes you.
