I want to install train horns in my truck and have a way to use air tools off my truck(if i need to change a tire on the fly). I have been told that there is a way to convert air conditioner into an air compressor. Is this true? If so how do I do it? I have a 93 4.0L, if somebody has done it please help me out here.

Yes, it is possible, though not the best way to get air on the ranger. A dedicated pump is best.
The write up is in the Tech library.

It is possible, but the stock AC unit on the 4.0L is NOT the best candidate for this task.

The compressors eat themselves up in short order if not religiously oiled, and even then I have had mine fail many times. Its come to the point where I have to replace the compressor every year pretty much.

A much better idea is to go to a 12v compressor like a Viair unit, or building the bracketry to mount a York 210 compressor.
