ok, so i got rearended by a quad last weekend, took out my led tails, so i'm getting new ones, this time around, i'm going with red lenses, not clear/black, problem is, i can't find ANY red LED high mount lights at all! i CAN find a few silver/clear, and a lot of smoke ones...

what i figure i can do, buy the red tails, and a silver/clear high mount, and do a red candy on the high mount to give it the same red finish as the tails, i saw pictures of someone doing just this on another forum, which i am not welcome on, and shall remain nameless, there were no instructions however...

i know how to paint fairly well, but am in no aspect an expert... i have a compressor and several auto sprayers, and can head up to my brother's place who has a "spray booth" i say "spray booth" because it's a section of his garage with a fan in it... lol

so, what do i do, how do i prep it right, what are my steps to take? is it possible to get a rattle can product that will do this? that would be much simpler than doing it the proper way...

There's that spray paint at autozone that's saposed to give an anodized look to Chrome. I would think that that would give work about the same as candy. It comes in red. Id give that a try and see what it looks like

I bought red candy concentrate that is made by House of Kolor, then mixed it with clear basecoat, in my case I used Diamont BC00, but every manufacturer has there own clear basecoat. Then just start coating it untill you have the desired look, and clear.

clear ontop of the candy mixed with clear?

how long between coats did you do, and did you sand before/after? what grit?

i have sprayed many things, but not a whole lot of prep work, and most of what i have done has been opaque/textured things, so it didn't show all of the miniscule imperfections, like i imagine this will

I just sanded a little with 1000 wet, then used a gray scotchbrite. The clear basecoat is not clearcoat, its just basecoat thats clear, meaning you can use a tackrag on it between coats, sand it if you need to, etc. the clearcoat is what makes it shiny and gives it uv protection. The candy is transluscent, so it will take quite a few coats, it took me 8 to get that look. Just spray nice even coats and it will be fine.
