How difficult is it to install a bug shield???

I just bought a ford factory bug shield for my 2005 Ford Ranger, I got it for only 55.00 off the ford website and picked it up this morning, I was going to get the dealer to install it but they wanted 70 dollars for installation. I was just wondering if anybody has installed one on this year because I was just going to do it myself and save the 70 bucks, it doesnt look that difficult but I wanted to ask before I did it.

If it's not like 6 plastic clips, It'll be 6 little screws

yes it is 6 plastic clips, the only reason I ask is becasue my dad had an 05 f150 and when he had his bug shield put on they had to remove the grill and do all kinds of stuff to get it on.

it really depends on the model of the truck and the model of the bug shield

it probably comes with directions- check em out

but I cant imagine it being worth 70 bucks to have someone else do it

The F-150's have the grille attached to the hood (grille goes up with hood), and I am guessing that the bug shield would have to go between the two. On your Ranger it would just go on the bottom of the hood, your grille is attached to the front end of the truck. It shouldn't be too hard to do on your own.

I put one on my truck when I first got it...went on in about 5 minutes...

However, I took it off after a few rides down the highway because the one I had caused the windshield wipers to dance around...literally...I was going to get some of those deflectors for the wipers to keep them pinned to the windshield but with the freezing rain and snow we get up here I'd just as soon not have to bother...instead I bought some of that "rain away" stuff that helps to reduce the amount of stuff that sticks to the windshield...

There is also a treatment that you can get that is a bit more expensive and it really works...put that on my DD and ice, snow and grit don't stick...(not sure about bugs yet because there ain't any this time of the year)...

Maybe the 2005 deflector won't do that to your wipers, so I may just be talking out of my hat...

mine on my 93 took me about 15 minutes on tuesday, and that included drilling new hols cuz the holes on the shield didnt line up with the hood and the sticky crap wouldnt stick cuz it was cold. but 4 new holes and some sheet metal screws later, shes on good-n-tite

edit: i also did all this by myself...thats why it took so long
