Hello all, I have always wanted a 5.0 Ranger but not capable of building so I finally bought one. Just looking for opinions and advice on what I got and anything I need to know going forward. Plan is to drive it a lot, mostly during the winter when my Camaro is parked.

Here is list of modifications seller listed:

Rear End:
Ford 9" posi 3:55 gears with chromoly axle shafts

Front End:
Dana 44 3:55 gears with chromoly axle shafts

Motor:
302 5.0 h.o. Mustang Motor
Comp Cam
512 Lift Valve Springs
Double Roller Timing Chain
Roller Lifters
GT40 Valves
Ported and Polished Heads
Bored out .30 Over
Rebuilt 2012 has less than 2000 miles
Aluminum radiator with electric fan
Spector intake
Headers with Flow Master Mufflers

Trans:
C-6 with 2500 stall converter and stage 2 shift kit
Rebuilt 2013 with less than 300 miles on it.
205 transfer case.

4 " suspension lift and a 3" body lift riding on BF Goodrich 35/12.5/15 rubber

Seems to me this was built right and I should'nt have any issues? Any opinions are appreciated, thanks in advance.

Thats a good looking truck and the specs on the build suggest it should be a rugged, reliable ride for a long time.

Under the hood, the attention to detail is a little weak and I'd seriously look to get some cooler air to the intake.

I think you've got a great foundation for a fun truck. Enjoy!

I agree, truck looks great on the outside. Suspension setup is another thing to look at, radiator looks a little small. And I'd question what type of cooling fan is used. Other than nick picking, looks good...

Take my money!!!

I would get proof of a couple things like the axles being chromo and the engine getting the work done to it but other then that, great truck if it is all true.

Thanks for info guys, look forward to reading through the forum.

Seller is supposed to ship all receipts with the truck to prove all work.

I also thought CAI would be my first tweak, any suggestions on what to get?

Also any suggestions on what oil to use in a rebuilt engine like that?

Thanks again.

It's really nice as long as everything is confirmed. I like the 35s a lot and the fact that its fuel injected, even better. That truck is a lot like how I hope to see mine one day.

Looks like a sharp looking, well built truck!

Well took delivery yesterday (purchased off Ebay) and I guess you were right about the radiator. I drove about 15 miles and it got up to 220 degress so I shut it down and waited for it to cool off. Once it cooled down it would no longer turn over, managed to get it to my mechanic who got it started with a jump box no problem (so I am assuming battery and / or alternator are bad) but found that it is leaking oil somewhere....

Seller is no help at all and just claims it was fine when he shipped it, lesson learned I guess, mechanic has it now and is going to evaluate....

If anyone would be interested in buying or trading for this one send me a PM. The overheating was a thermostat which my mechanic fixed but this is way too much truck for me. Willing to sell to more appropriate owner for less than I paid or trade for something more suited to my needs.

mmm. cooling system is wholly inadequate for hard use. easy enough to fix.

i recognize the truck, pretty sure its was a forum members from here at some point.

what are you looking to get out of it??

I paid $6,000.00 but willing to listen to anything reasonable. My mechanics basic thought is that I bought something that really needs a certain type of person to own and I am not that type of person. I just dont want to get hurt too bad if possible. I posted it in the selling section of this forum with link to Craigslist ad which has $5,800 OBO, even willing to trade for something more appropriate for me.

Don't jump the gun! We'll help you fix the bugs in it. I suggest you keep it. I love my truck. Basically the same mods to my truck but it's not efi.

I appreciate the advice and I will consider it. Let me ask you this, is that truck something I can reliably drive on the road or is it strictly an off road toy? My intent was to park my Camaro for the winter and have a cool truck that I can drive, not sure I accomplished that?

As long as all the work that was done to it is quality work ie: grade 8 bolts, thick enough of metal for the brackets, everything lines up correctly, wiring is done right then yes it will be a reliable vehicle. I drove the piss out of mine. Before I decided to turn it into a serious play toy.

Is there a link that I'm missing? I can't see a picture of the truck.

I would daily drive that hell out of that. So yes, it sounds solid after the cooling issue. A beefier aftermarket 3-core or an Explorer radiator fixes that.

I would take it on the highway and go on trips, too, though you won't get good MPG's.
