How big r your jets, holley 2 barrel?

thanks guys,i have #58 jets in it with #57,59 and 61 jets on the work bench.i have a 65 power valve in it.

i'll keep an i on mileage but it is for fun, only got 16 mpg before the swap.if it goes south i'll get a smaller carb.

Will, Thanks for the info.
I'll run a vacuum check and see where I'm at when going down the road.
I will also chek on that smaller carb or possible a 6 cyl carb from a 1978 2.8.
More to come.

Howdy Al What will said X 2! However with a vac check you can see how much the vac drops from steady hiway speed as the throttle is opened. A power valve can be selected for the vac number when passing or such.. But easy normal accelerating shouldn't open the valve.
Placing your throttle cable to a position where the carb CANNOT open all the way is one way of helping keep the vac up.. So the carb will never see it's advertised cfm.

BUT as Will said it would better all around to get a carb with the proper cfm.

al,in post #17 is a link i posted.in that link is a lists of computations, including one for holley jet sizing.just input the particulars for your area and it does the rest.hope it helps.

Well,
I guess I finally figured (thanks for all the hints) that I don 't need this much carb. I hooked up the stock carb and, low and behold, she ran pretty good.
I searched for the old posts on the home made metering block and made one from a hocky puck (will buy a chunk of aluminum to machine at a later date) and she seems to be running quite nice throughout RPM range. I drove the Stranger about 8 miles where there is a reasonable hill and she pulled it fine. Got home and checked plugs and they actually have a bit of dark color to em. :icon_hornsup:
Man, I been fighting that POS Holley for a while.
I still think my Holley has some internal blockage but I'll run the old stock carb, for now anyway.
May eventually go to an old style 2100/2150.

Thanks for the help on this.
Al
