This all started with a sticking caliper. "try replacing the hose" was the advice. Apparently some old hoses deteriorate and self seal?

Anyway.

02 Ranger XLT 4WD 4.0L

The usual snowball issues - frozen bleeder, frozen flare nut at frame fitting, etc. Got them off after lots of coaxing, except I think I twisted and stressed the brake line on the frame as the flare nut was sticking to the line. Replace caliper as mating surface was heavily corroded and resealing looked bleak, plus it's a 16 year old caliper that has seen enough road salt to melt a VW.

So the new NAPA brake hose does not fit the new NAPA caliper. There is a raised edge to the hose end fitting that is shaped like a skinny "C". In order to fit, it needs to be shaped like a skinny "L". The extra ear of the "C" keeps it from fitting. Advance Auto parts had the exact same issue.

Has anyone come across this? Have a solution? I'm off to the Ford dealer on Monday, but thought I'd ask in case there's some helpful knowledge out there.

In the photo below, the shaded area is the ear of the "C" that is in the way.

Thanks.....

1 do you have the correct hose? It’s possible the parts store mixed them up.
2 usually the side you have pictured it where the bolt head goes on and the bottom of that should mate against the caliper.

I agree, that is the top you are showing they are made to fit against a shoulder so they can't twist and that retains the head of the bolt, my calipers came from AutoZone and my hoses came from advance. But always check the part numbers before I go pick them up

I tried for giggles putting it on with the raised section up. 2 problems -

1) I'm skeptical the hose will not kink on full hard over left turn as the 90 degree pipe on the fitting points aft and shortens the effective hose length.

2) #1 is somewhat irrelevant as the hole is not dead center on the square. If you flip it over, the fitting hole does not and can not line up with the threaded hole in the caliper. The banjo bolt will not go in. Also, when you look at the down side of the old fitting, you can see the raised edge. However the old raised edge does not have 2 ears, only one ear. That curved raised edge is supposed to go against the curved boss on the caliper casting. The casting has a big flat to mate to the square fitting, the little raised edge is not needed to keep it from rotating. Also, the tubing side does not go to the flat in the caliper, the tubing side goes 90 degrees to the flat in the caliper.

Yes, I checked with 2 parts stores, NAPA and Advanced, and they both give me the C shaped raised section. I also checked the 2003 and 2001 models, same part number.

I'll look again tomorrow in case I'm missing something.

I was a non-believer on brake hoses until I actually saw what happens to them on the inside on Vehicles I've had, the truck I have now is a 94 one front hose was completely blocked and one was restricted.
Towards the end of this video around 5. 32 he shows the banjo block, different truck but the same type of connection. maybe that will shed some light on what you're doing. Left and right hoses are different from each other https://youtu.be/PD7uQUyDKbk

With better light and a second look I got it together. The raised portion of the aftermarket hose does in fact go face up. I'm not sure it's a carbon copy of the original, but if it works, I'm fine with that.

Now onto the brake line, I have a pin hole leak where it got stressed from undoing the connection; the flare nut was stuck onto the line.
