Hi new to this board and fords. im a former chevy, vw and volvo guy. I just bought an 84 B2 and got it to pass Oregon DEQ but its getting horrible mileage, 10 city and 14 hwy. I bought this to replace a mercedes 420 sel that averaged 18mpg and I was hoping for better from this. The engine has good compression and doesn't burn any oil 140k miles, on the whole the truck runs well, so I'm guessing its the goofy EEC system. What kind of mileage can I expect if I go to duraspark and 2150 carb? I did search but couldn't find a good answer. From the looks of it the swap seems fairly simple.

Thanks
Ren

I average about 20+ MPG with a totally stock system here in California. 2 wheel drive and stock tires - can't recall the rear, but it was about a 3:60.
Search this site for how to pull codes so you can see what's wrong; a proper running stock system is fine. (I just passed Cal smog yesterday)
Caution: some of the stock smog items are hard to find and can be expensive; Duraspark is cheaper.

I'd be totally happy with 20mpg average. I'll see if I can find out what codes are showing up.

Thanks

Disconnect the battery and clean all of the connectors good with electrical cleaner and use dielectric grease to put them back together. check clean all the vacuum lines and make sure they are all connected correct especially the orange one it allows the egr to close it gets connected to the bottom of the air horn on the carb bringing filtered air in to allow the egr to close. Connect the battery and run it around 20 minutes at medium speeds and the check for codes. Oh yea before you start it you want to erase the memory run the KOEO test and when it starts sending codes disconnect the jumper or end the test that will erase the memory then you start with a clean slate, run the motor until it is fully up to temp and then run the codes. Allways address the first code first do the repair and start all over again to confirm the repair for KOER test you want to see
11-1-11 if it still runs like crap then it is a mechanical issue. You cannot do the duraspark conversion if you need to pass smog it will likely not pass the sniffer and if they pop the hood they will want to see the stock setup.
