Test driving that Saleen ranger would have went great if I didn't lose the keys to my rental truck last night. Instead of testing the saleen I ended up stuck at thorobred chevrolet. Towtruck had to tow me from my house to the dealership 70 Bucks(35 mile trip). new key $53 bucks, New remote 70 bucks, program ****ing POS electronic chip key $100 bucks, The 7 hours of time it took to reprogram the key(since there was no key programed to the truck available), Priceless :D . I think today was the worst day of my life to date.

I got hungary/thirsty around 2PM. I came up with a plan to get some grub and a soda. I "became" interested in a 2010 Colorado(and ended up test driving it to Taco Bell :) ). It was a automatic with a 2.9 4 cyl, extended cab, worktruck edition. I got kinda pissed that it has soo much more balls that my ranger. They were selling it for 15G and said they would give me 4K trade in on my ranger(Thats really good btw). I refused because the truck just didn't feel durable and I don't trust chevy quality anyway. The truck with only 6 miles on it just didn't feel quite right(I liked the engine for sure though). I really think I need a 4.0 ranger extended cab anyway. In my humble opinion on the Colorado, this truck is great for the people who like to camp/weekend getaway but I can not see it being used as a worktruck.

Good lord your luck is as bad as mine.

Your intuition is right. The Colorado is a piece of (third-world Isuzu-designed) crap. On Autoblog, they recently did an expose on the thing. It got Poor ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in literally every category except Frontal because its structure crumpled like a tin can. And I don't mention that because of safety, I mention it because it just isn't a structurally strong vehicle.

It's a shame, too. That Vortec 2900 would be kickass in a Ranger...

i used to own a 2006 2.8 five speed. the day i got out of high school my grandma told me she would co-sign me for any car i wanted at the time chevy had 0 percent interest my payment was alot lower so i wanted a chevy. I got a five speed 4 banger reg cab "sport editions" with painted bumpers to match and such. I had the truck for only a few months when the fun started. Fith gear just went out had to hold it in would pop out on the highway. Chevy told me that i was hot rodding the truck and tryed to get out of fixing it. My lawyer told them a nice little phone call and the truck went in the shop. They gave me a rental colbalt and it took them 4 weeks to put a new trans in.On my way back to the dealership the rental had a blowout and i tryed to put the spare on but they had locks on the wheels but no key. I called the dealership for a tow but after two hours of waiting i gave up and called my own tow truck and got it up there. The bastard service manager tryed to then bill me for the tire for the colbalt or i cant have my truck back i took the the keys said **** you got in my truck and left. The dealer banned me from ever going on there property again. I ended up selling the truck for 10 grand with 20,000 miles on it and had to shell out 3 grand of my own cash to get rid of it. **** Chevy ill never own one again.

Why did Chevy eff up and d/c the stout s-10/Sonoma???

Oh wait, at the time GM was run by idiots!!!!

Thank haven for my Ranger. It ain't perfect, but it's a stout little truck!

What are you talking about?? They are still run by idiots!! And as far as the new GM 4 cyl having power, it better have power at almost 3 liters for a 4 banger:icon_surprised: I do believe thats the biggest 4 banger in production, while every other manufacture is going smaller and more efficient, GM continues to go bigger and bigger...I think they are trying to comensate for something:shok:

My work truck is an 06 colorado. I'm not going to complain about it. I don't pay for gas, tires, or maintenance on it. But I'd never buy one for a personal vehicle.

Back when I got my first Ranger, I looked at Rangers, S-10s, Sonomas, and Tacos. The Tacoma got ruled out immediately - too expensive. The GMC was priced a couple thou higher than the S-10 (but the same truck really), so that was out. I wanted to look into a Mazda B-series but nobody around here had 'em (didn't know it was a Ford product essentially). The Ranger and S-10 were similarly priced, but Ford was offering me a slightly better deal... and when I got to try out both, there was no comparison, the Ford seemed considerably better built.

Of course, I was biased towards Ford from the start... aside from a few station wagons Fords were all my parent's owned since the mid-80's (before that dad owned several Ford trucks as well, but also a scattering of other brands). Since I got my first truck (Ranger), now the driveway looks like a Ford retirement home or something... there is 9 of them in the driveway, one in the garage, and one at a friend's house. :tease:

FWIW (too late to help the OP though), but if you have AAA, they will send out a locksmith to replace your key if you lose it. I think the basic coverage they just pay a portion of it but if you have a Plus membership they will pay the whole cost of having a new ignition key made. I've had it done before (I actually didn't lose the key, but the person I bought it from did).

If this was the worst day of your life then you've had a pretty good life.

Good job Matt. You might have screwed yourself over, but at least you suckered someone out of a free ride to Taco-Bell.

Just don't go to the Toyota Taco-Bell. If you eat their food, your colon may accelerate and not stop again.:icon_thumby:

N/A because the key has to be programed by dealer on 2010 models

My work truck is an 07 Silverado. I don't complain about it because my boss is already overwhelmed with the other techician's silverado's breaking down more often. One of our techs recently had his driveshaft shatter. On a v6 2wd.

Well they are made of CF now or something like that...?

That sucks man... what you should do is go to the ford dealership and see about a 4.0L ranger and see how you like it then look for a good used one...

They're company vehicles. We drive what they give us. Some bean counter got a better deal on the Silverados so we got them. I didn't hate Chevy until I had to drive one 3000 miles a month.
