Just completed a transmission swap. My daily driver 1989 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 has the 2.9L and A4LD automatic with electric Transfer Case. Auto Hubs.
I purchased a 1984 Ranger with a 2.8L with a 1987 TK5 and Manual Transfer Case. It has the hubs.
Besides the difference in Transmissions, the switch over was simple (bolted right up to my 2.9). I wanted to keep my automatic transfer case and this also was a simple swap with the manual one from the 2.8L.
Since my Ranger is a L/B and the doner vehicle was a short bed, the front drivelines were compatable, however I needed to have the rear driveline lengthened 2-1/2". Cost $85.
I connected the switch for the back up lights and by-passed the neutral safety switch. However, after starting my truck, I observed the 4x4 sensor light and low range light (both flashing). The transfer case is definitely locked in low range, vehicle operated through the gears, runs great. I have depressed clutch/backed up/lifted off ground and left run in both forward and reverse but nothing works to unlock the transfer case.
Is there something I missed and have not addressed??? I am at a complete loss.:icon_bounceblue:
