Does anybody make a kit so i can remove the prop rod off the truck and use hood struts to hold it up?

I don't know of one. I'd avoid it though. The struts weaken over time and eventually the hood falls on you head.

A prop rod won't do that.

True Dat.

However, while changing out the lower and upper intake gaskets and valve cover gaskets last week I really wish that prop rod was somewhere else...altho not having the struts in the way on the sides was nice too...

usually the struts do last quite abit of time. I still have my original factory hood struts on my 94 intrepid, and just this last year they are getting flaky. I am not sure if I will spring the bucks on rockauto to replace them yet... but when they do go, a good pair of vicegrips firmly clamped to the rod will hold the hood up quite nicely.

You might hit the local junk yard and grab the springs off any f series truck. They're nice!

Ugg I hate gas struts up here in Alaska, the sub-zero temps eat them alive!

I have seen them before on Rangers. I might even gat a set!!!! Thanks for the website!!! I have not heard anything bad about adding them.....ok, freezing weather guys...maybe for you...lol

The prop rod is always in the way. On my b2 it's on the driver side, guess where I usually need? Lol. On the ex it's in the front, guess where I usually need... Lol. I was thinking about using putting one on the front off an ex and having both. That way if ones in the way I could use the other..

I just used some hatch glass props from the back of a BII on my hood. :icon_thumby:

They're like 13$ each from rockauto.com

Hmmmm...post a photo of them installed. I might check into that as well.

Just plan on using a fawlking stick (byos) this close to the pole, I use a bone of whatever I just ate.:icon_thumby:

That stick is still in the way. That's what we are talking about...nothing blocking the way and letting us get complete engine access. I want some struts, too!!!

Hey!! Stuff the bone...lol

I like this idea best.

But I was thinking about this as I was working on a new Taurus today. It really probably wouldn't be too hard too grab the parts off of another vehicle with similar hood lift height/weight and then fab it up on your truck.

Even then you could leave the prop rod in place and use it if you ever do loose your struts.

The Redline Tuning QuickLifts are nice-I've had a set on my '04 for 3 or 4 years--great mod.
