The liner underneath my hood is starting to sag and directly contact some engine parts.

Should I replace it, leave it alone or just remove it?

Does it protect the hood or is it for sound supression?

Thanks

CE

Its a lot of sound deadening. Its also heat protection. I'd go look for a new one.

its actually a fire blanket... if the engine catches fire, it melts the little plastic fasteners dropping it on the engine, hopefully smothering the fire (or at least slowing it down) thats what ive been told anyways...

It's for all three. It's there for a reason. Don't remove it.

Then the one that was in my choptop failed miserably. When I got the truck, the PO had done a bang-up job of cracking a head... there was a crack from top to bottom over the #1 cyl that was big enough to stick a fingernail in easily. Squirted hot oil all over the hot exhaust manifold and burned up a bunch of stuff. The hood blanket failed to drop... I later removed it because it was partially burnt and had become soaked in oil. I figured it was more a hazard than a help at that point.

None of the fullsize trucks either myself or my dad owns have a blanket under the hood.... odd...

if it worries you that much just get some header paint and paint the under side of the hood. i know VHT makes a flame proof header paint thats good up to like 1,500 degrees and that should give you some piece of mind

I don't think it's meant to work that way.
