Hood latch cable replacement problem

I replaced the hood latch cable (specifically this part). The install went OK and the cable opens the latch when the hood is open, but when the hood is closed I cannot unlock the hood. It's almost as if the cable is just a tad too long, it feels like I should be able to pull the cable more to open it.

Is there some adjustment that I need to make that isn't obvious?
