Homeowners Insurance

Seems alot like a election, no “good “ choice, just the “least worse” option.

Looking at going to Erie at the first of the year. Anyone have any experience
Erie doesn’t like paying claims and if they do, expect to be immediately dropped

I’ve had Erie for about 5 years now for my home owners and car insurance. Much better then the AAA I had before, and I actually like the AAA.

Wife’s family has had Erie for a long time.

We’ve had a few auto claims, but they’ve always been good to us.

We had an issue with a different Erie insurance agency that was giving my trouble when a drunk driver drove off the road and hit my parked car. We called our agent and they were able to reach out and get the process moving along.

With all of this, you guys jinxed me. I just started with Kin a couple months ago. I just got a letter that after their inspection, they want me to cut back some trees that might damage the roof in the storm. It’s the first time an insurance company wanted me to spend money so they could avoid a claim! Is it just me, or does that seem kind of backwards?

I wonder if I could get a discount if I built a metal building over and around my house…

Just build a metal building over and around the trees.

Name it "Rick's Arboretum", form yourself as a non-profit tree museum, and hit the county up for a tax break to boot.

Remember this?
They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em

You'll be filthy rich in no time, I tell you!

If you could afford that, would you really need insurance? Be kinda like spending a dollar to save a dime.

State Farm had me try that GPS thing that plugs into your OBD port. After a trail period, it would have been a certain amount of money per month for the service. Because of the hours I drive, mostly the drive to work time was the issue, the cost of the service would have only just been negated by the savings of being a good driver (in their eyes) and would have not resulted in any additional premiums savings to make them worthwhile and deal with them micromanaging my every move behind the wheel. So, I got rid of it.

Why are you making fun of my age?

They wanted me to do that too, but there was no place to plug it in on the 88 town car

Afterthought, but I could never get involved in an interstate crime spree by telling them “no, that was the other blue 88 Lincoln town car.“

@Jim Oaks

Another afterthought, coincidentally I just filed my paperwork away and I took a peek. I took a high deductible, $5000, on my roof which lowered the premium considerably. If I have 100 or 200 ft.² that gets damaged, that’s pretty easy to fix. I just need the catestrophic coverage in case the whole thing gets blown away.

Also, don’t you qualify for USAA? Isn’t that the veteran to prevent insurance? I always heard that was the best deal for a veteran.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think Jim is a veteran. USAA has opened up who can get their insurance. So, he might be able to get coverage from them. From what I understand, their premiums aren't all that special compared to other companies. Thus why I never looked into moving over to them.

'cause I'm right up there with you.

It hurts less when you can laugh about it . . .

. . maybe.

The only thing I own that one of those things would plug into is my 2000 Rangers. One of those hasn’t driven in over 10 years and the other, well, no, we aren’t putting one of those in there…

I didn’t have homeowners for a while because I re-fied my house with my home equity credit line after my divorce. We just re-fied the the house with a traditional mortgage and had to get insurance, which is high for the first year because we didn’t have insurance but they said it will go down next year. We saved a lot on cash flow so paying insurance is no big deal. Where I live is remarkably free from natural disasters. I do keep comprehensive on all my vehicles even when they’re paid off because deer strikes are a common thing here.

Well, I'm about to feel the pain of my homeowners insurance going up.

This months house payment is $748.96. Next months payment is $1,230.06. That's an increase of $481.10 a month.

Sum bitch!

I looked at my insurance policy. The insured amount of my house (Dwelling A) is $193,000. Last year it was $161,000. I owe $96,000 (been here about 4-years). There's no way my house is worth $193,000.
