A what, $60 part is "way too much"?? I'm sorry, but steering really isn't something you should skimp on PERIOD. The last thing you want is whatever contraption you made failing on you and you ending up head-on with a civic with 2 adults and 2 children in it. Spend the money, do it right, don't be a cheapass hackjob.

i agree that u dont wanna halfass it but i see no problem with making parts as long as its done properly. use the roset welds and the regular weld around the colum and counter sink where the bolts go into the actual shaft that way it cant slide out

depending on what setup you have you can likely slip the amount needed from the column. if not use of the aerostar linkage sometimes a combo of early and late fixes this problem with superior results, generally its a given with v8 swaps if i am doing them....you gain full universal joints and no rag joints with that setup.
