Home replacement of exhaust. How hard is it?

FYI Part Numbers Ranger post CAT pipe.

Advance auto has the bolt kits, $12 p/n 36129. the gasket is p/n 60641, $6

And you tighten them to something like 20 ft lbs. After coating with Nev-R-Seez, of course.

You're not torquing (much) against the springs. The bolts will "bottom."

You might want to just retorque yours first. They may just be loose....

i'd call a few parts stores first. the dealer is your " last resort" ,most dealers are all overpriced and not worth the extra money if an auto parts store has them for a third of the price in many cases.

the cat shield rattled on mine I just used a bit of left over rtv on it

The only thing that taking a wrench to the old bolts will do is to snap them! They're mostly iron oxide now.
Thanks for the tip on tightening the new bolts.

Got the parts, ready to go!

Picked up the spring bolts and gasket at Autozone.
I'll have a wack at it tomorrow. I plan on cutting out the old bolts because they're junk anyway.

One concern: After the bolts are off, is there enough room to pull the pipe and gasket out of the cat pipe without having to unbolt the muffler etc.? By this I mean will it just swing back and clear without having to take anything else apart?:icon_confused:

It should separate with more than enough room without further disassembly.
