home made bearing press

Thats pretty sweet. I can't find one at Princess Auto though... bastards!

Looks like the tools he is using are mostly pieces from a universal ball joint press set and one big-ass bolt.

That would be handy if you own an Escape.

Any idea how much pressure it takes to press a wheel bearing, is it anything near a pinion? Just wondering because his wrench isn't very long. Seems like he might have a breaker bar. Either way im buying one. Cuz Napa is gonna charge me 90$ per bearing to be pressed.and I got 2.

Damn. Is that normal, or does that seem expensive to others too? I can't remember the last time I paid retail for anything...

any time I've ever had anything pressed by them its always 90$, had my cars wheel bearing replaced it was like 280$

$90 seems excessive if you bring them knuckles to have bearings put in. $90 sounds like a heck of a deal if you bring them a whole car.

my friend just had both front wheel bearings replaced and a u joint fixed, total charge was 900$ lmfao, then the shop called him and requested 450$ to change the fuel pump in his old ass corolla. He was beyond mad

I have gone to the dealer 4 different times to have bearings pressed in. Around here, it seems best to go on a Saturday because "while the cat is away, the mice will play" - meaning, the tech's just say "20 bucks cash" because the shop manager isn't there to run it through the system. When I went on a Friday, it was 60 dollars and they gave me a receipt and all that jive.

By the way... you aren't looking at needing a press for your D44 swap deal are you? You don't need a press for that.

I need to replace my wheel bearings in my Dana 35 here soon

You don't need a press for those. You may need to tap the races out with a hammer and screwdriver... but that press would be a waste of money for you.
