Holy S**t, I Was Almost Killed

soo ummm... dose this mean your a real "jack off'? :tease:

and yeah, dont buy cheap jack stands, been there done that too, if they are made in china, they are only for ricers....cause creeek creeck squish rice is good.

haha, we might have some at our cabin, ill check next time were up there

Dont get cheap jackstands. I tacoed one before and dropped a truck 4 feet to the ground. (saw it coming though, stepped back.)

If your talking about me and the $7 stands, they're actually pretty good quality. Next time I'm up there I'll check the brand. (and make sure they're not made in china, haha)
They're rated for up to two tons.. so maybe moving up to the $10 stands is a good idea..

i think my jack stands are 6 ton each. i use 2 to support an axle, or 4 to hold up the whole truck. when youre working on a truck, you need a jack stand with a large foot print, and one that will extend tall enough without being all wobbly. i even stand them inside a steel wheel if i need to go taller.

I asked for taller jackstand for christmas. I got some craftsman ones, one year warranty, made in china. Same thing with the jack. I was:pissedoff::pissedoff: I have heard many bad things about chinese made steel. They don't have enought steel(obvious by how fast they're buying up ours) so they use sand as a filler. I've talked to people who have seen the results first hand. Chinese made scaffolding is a bad thing.

Thats why I said upgrading is a good idea.

I don't even use jack stands honestly.. we have some erm.. old.. things.. that we put under anything were working on. They work great, and solid steel isn't gonna break. Only thing is they're not adjustable, but it doesn't matter, just lower the truck down on them. Same thing you do with a jack stand, just you have to jack it up a bit higher to start.

I got a great set of 3 ton (each) hydraulic jacks and stands built into one unit.

Pretty cool, as you jack up the truck the locks on the stand engage. They have a nice wide and solid base too. Used them on the wifes exploder and the thing didn't move a millimetre.

Yeah, cheap jack stands = :nono:

I had a set of jack stands from walmart or something, when I dropped a 4.0 in one of my BII's, they just folded over, Lame! Crushed my Craftsman creepr:flipoff:

I went and got some nice craftsmen ones from sears:headbang:

They'll hold up anything

yea i was thinking craftsman ones..
Thats about the only brand of tools i have..
yea im 13 and i got about more tools than my dad does, (and hes a trucker, well as of last month)

Am I the only one who just uses wooden blocks instead of jackstands? I have seen jackstands crumple, but wood blocks seem to take more abuse, and they are more stable.

Of course, I use a chain instead of a nylon strap for vehicle recovery, so what do I know?

My $.02

I've seen wood crumble, and I've seen chains break...

Oh damn, I'm gladded nothing happened!

I almost died twice this week, t-boned and I had a full sized bus cut me off (inches from my bumper) at 80mph.

DOH! That is what I like to referr to as a CHEAP lesson. A life lesson that doesn't cost you .... your LIFE!!! If you were a cat, you'd only have 8 left!

that happened when i was 18, and since the jackstand was 1 month out of warranty i was told i had no case.....the jackstand was supporting a 88 mercury sable station wagon, and the scar came from a brake rotor squishing my leg when it came crashing down.....
