Howdy bonjour buenos...

First time ranger-owner-DIYer in Miami, FL, looking to get to know how cars work by means of a '98 XLT 3.0L V6 4x4 5-speed. Blows my mind how many rangers roll around this city, if you watch you can spot 5 a minute easy.

Got dragged on the buying price but after diving into this site n reading up on some stories, seems like it was a worthy buy. Anyhow I'm committed to cleaning her up myself and getting a home automotive education along the way. All about the learning.

There's an oil leak dripping off the transmission and the clutch has been slipping since I bought it (figured a rear main seal), and a nice P1506 code lit up yesterday. Will be pooling the threads to see what info you all have to shed some light, hoping to dive into the clutch job in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the welcome, keep em rollin' :headbang:

Yup, sounds like rear main seal. Be sure to pack the spring and the inside of the circle up good with petroleum jelly before installing it and don't push it on straight, try to turn it on like you are threading a nut onto a stud until it's in a bit and the whole lip is around the crank, otherwise you will screw the seal up.

good looks, thanks for the advice. looks like the oil pan gasket might be gone too... been reading up on it, is there really no way to get it out without pulling up the engine?

and any recommendations for reliable clutch kits? need something thats gonna hold up with payload and a lot of elevation.

ALRIGHT! another miami member to the list! Welcome, and hope to see you around man. We might be arranging a meet soon down here in miami, i will keep you posted
