HOckey Puck Lift Kit?...

so lets say i wanted a 2 inch body lift how much would it cost (about) to get spacers for however many mounts my truck has...

I used the hockey puck lift but I only used one per bolt and it has held up still hard and it has been that way for at lest 15 years

for a 1" body lift its not a bad idea.. anything more, i'd recommend against it. i've seen stacked pucks... they break over time. idk why.. they get cracks and crack more over time. then again, i say don't do anything more than a 2" body lift. i'm just that type of person... i'm used to the jeep guys that do a 1" or 1.25", to do a mml and tummy tuck...

there's a lot of things you can use for a body lift. my first body lift was done w/ the spacer blocks from a freightliner semi. worked great. was right at 2" of body lift. i just don't like the look of body lifts, nothing lines up right afterwards. the motor is to low in the hood, the frame shows more, bumpers don't line up, steering issues... so on.

That's my main dislike about body-lifts, is the appearance factor.

All of my body lifts have looked great. I have always used PA gab guards and they are the best. I never ever had any steering problems or body alignment problems with any truck I have done. Everything aligned perfectly. I will only use a PA bl. I do love the way you can move the bumber up with the bracket kits as well. Nothing wrong with a bl. It is always so easy to change out the plug wires and remove spark plugs as well....lol

and makes it possible to remove transmissions without dropping the exhaust!!!!!

I have seen loads of of hockey phuck lifts up here and on this site, guess its all what you want since they are not desiged for it much as a screen door is not made for a submarine. I remember back in the day i would find broken pucks on the trail in total bfe and was like WTF then i found out peeps were using them for lifts. There was one guy on here that used 4x4's on his BII, that was a redneck hall of famer there boss.

see, problem is... even the PA bl's don't include bumper lifts for an 88.
not everyone is doing body lifts on newer vehicles. :D think about it..

and by the time you pay for the PA body lift (about 150-200?) and the gap guards (run about 100?) you're most the way to a 4" RC lift... or you could do some smart buying of used parts and have a complete 4" lift a lot better than the RC :icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

you dont need bumper brackets for the older style, its even easier, just put your lower bumper bolts on the upper frame holes and use some metal to brace it, i'll load pics of what i did, i'm pretty sure my 94 has the same mount design and the older gens

My dad used pucks for a 1 in. lift on his disco. It held up great, he just drilled a hole in the middle for the bolts

my stock bumper fit exactly over the frame... so its not that easy. the 94 and the 1st gens are different... different bumpers different mounts. :icon_thumby:
my point was not all body lifts come w/ those bumper brackets, and a lot of them come w/ the front bumper ones only.. so now the rear bumper is low and looks good awful.

/not that any of this has to do w/ the OP's question about hockey pucks. :icon_rofl::thefinger: well maybe it does a little, since he wants more than a 1" lift.

and as for gap guards, waste of money, rivet or self tap some rubber mud flap material in there for cheap

I originally used pucks for a 1" BL on my Ranger back in the day. Drill out the center the same size as your bolt and your ready to go. I wouldn't stack them so I bought a new 2" (with the right blocks). For a 1" lift I was out 15 bucks. I only ran mine this way for about 2 years though.

I have done this also with an earlier Ranger. I had plenty of scrap metal laying around our shop and had to do some fabricating like you did. I think yous came out better then my older 86 Ranger...lol. My 89 BII had a 3 inch PA lift and I got the bumber brackets with it when I ordered the kit. I moved the bumpers up. PA did not have the rear bracket kit for my 83 4x4 Ranger and I just left the rear alone. The front came with brackets as I raised up the front bumber. I never even thought about calling PA about the reason they did not have rear brackets and they had front brackets at that time. That was back in 84 when I did the suspension and bl on my 83.

And Kevin, you are right about how easy it is to do this. I saw your photos below and the bracket fab came out great!!

yea it was a crude build, i had the pa brackets but my truck got hit while it was parked, and i knew i could make it better and stronger then the cheap thin pa brackets, so i got some steel and my drill press and made it work

the back bumper i was never a fan of relocating, simply because if you run a hitch it hangs down too low, i have a filler piece on mine
