Like the title says. I took the Bronco out for a little joyride & ended up going through a nasty mud hole with some standing water. Apparently I sucked some into the intake & it started running rough, especially under a load. I thought no big deal probably a wet distributor cap or something & drove it home. It cleared up for the most part on the way home but I went to start it this morning & got nothing. Looking under the hood, I found 3 relays on the passenger fender & one was soaked. By soaked, I mean that I unplugged it & water came flowing out. The relay is E5DB 11433 A2A. When I went to the parts store, they couldn't find a cross reference for it & I'm thinking it may be a fuel pump relay. Anyone have an idea of what it is & if this is related to my no start problem? I currently have no fuel pressure but can hear the pump buzz when I turn the key. Also I don't have spark at the coil so maybe I fried something major? Not sure but I gotta get it going today so I have a truck for hauling my mowers & won't have to share a vehicle with the wife.

For more specific info, it's a 1988 BII 2.9/FM146/4wd if that helps. Gonna check with a couple other parts stores & keep looking online for answers but I'm coming up empty right now.

I assume the starter motor is turning?
It can fail if water gets inside

The 3 relays are:
EEC relay(brown base), it powers the fuel pump relay, fuel injectors, spark and EEC(computer).

Fuel Pump relay(green base), computer grounds this relay to turn on fuel pump for 2 seconds when key is first turned on.

WOT(Wide open throttle, black base) relay, turns off AC when throttle is wide open.

All 3 use the same "relay" so are interchangeable.
12volt, 30amp

Engine can start and run without WOT relay but the other 2 are required to start engine

EEC relay might be the problem as it powers spark and fuel injectors but fuel pump shouldn't come on.

Also check Fusible links connected to starter relay(battery's positive cable).
They are "fuses" but in wire form, they are made to "blow"/separate without burning in the event of a short.
A Fusible Link is a short, 3"-5", colored wire used between 12v(battery) and the device being powered, Green color is a 30/40 amp Fusible link
EEC relay and fuel pump relay each use a separate "fuse" for the power they pass to their respective devices.

If '88 has an engine fuse box then check it, EEC relay uses a 30amp fuse to power the spark and injectors.

It's the EEC Relay. That explains why I'm not getting spark or fuel pressure. When I turn the key on I still hear what sounds like a fuel pump cycling but maybe it's something else I'm hearing. I just know I hooked up my fuel pressure tester & got nothing. Also checked for spark at the coil & got nothing.

Do you happen to have an exchange number for E5DB 11433 A2A? It looks like the others BUT has a weird half circle "dimple" for lack of terminology. Not sure if I'll have to just replace the connector too or what but every relay I have seen so far doesn't have this.

Thanks for the quick reply RonD!

Automotive relays are pretty much standardized.

Any automotive 12volt, 30amp relay should work fine.

Try
AC Delco F1777A

Duralast 19840

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # RY71T

Good deal. Gonna go buy one after work & try it out.

If the socket is the problem(half circle) then you may have to hit a wrecking yard to get a replacement relay, they rarely fail so if you find one it will probably be a good one.

Ford would have used same EEC relay on all it's fuel injected engines during that time period so it won't be a "ranger/B2" specific part

Swapped the WOT relay over to the EEC & it fired right up. Thanks a bunch for the help!

Good work :icon_thumby:

Thanks for posting your fix
